Dolce & Gabbana-gate may be raging on, but Kourtney Kardashian put her best foot forward when it came to celebrating Kim Kardashian‘s birthday — kind of.

In Season 3, Episode 6 of The Kardashians, titled “The Tension is Brewing,” Khloé Kardashian gets the whole gang together for Kim’s 42nd birthday. While there has yet to be a face-to-face confrontation between the Skims owner and Kourtney — who previously accused Kim of copying her wedding with her Dolce & Gabbana fashion show — Kourtney assures the cameras that she is going to put the drama aside for the night.

“No matter what’s going on between us, you know, we always show up for each other,” she says in her confessional. “Of course, I’m going to celebrate my sister.”

Back at the dinner table, Kris Jenner sings praises about Kim during a heartfelt toast — or at least she tries to.

“I just want to say before I have another martini,” Kris jokes. “As I said today when I wished you a happy birthday, you are the strongest woman in the world. You are a rockstar and I am so proud of you.”

However, the speech gets derailed when Kim playfully calls her out for sending the same text to Khloé. Despite the interruption, the momager forges on — and perhaps offers a little too much unwanted responsibility to the birthday girl.

“We all look up to you. You’re a superpower. And you are pretty much, now, the leader of our family,” Kris drops on her daughter. “You’re, like, the person we all go to.”

In her confessional, Kourtney — who hasn’t seen eye-to-eye with Kim in what feels like forever — naturally shades her sister when asked if she sees her as the leader of their famous family.

“I mean if she wants to be, you know? It’s not a cult that I’m following,” she snarks.

Fortunately for the eldest Kardashian sibling, it may be a while before she’s forced to report to Kim, as the SKKN founder is not quite ready to step into her mother’s shoes just yet.

“I don’t have time to take on those duties,” she chimes in, before later telling cameras, “I love you. I am so honored. But I’m not ready for you to pass the baton. You need a least five more years.”

While Khloé notes that Kourtney was on her “best behavior” during Kris’ prolonged speech about how wonderful Kim is, she points out that she couldn’t help but feel the tension in the room between the sisters.

“There’s no tension that anyone else would notice,” she says. “Anytime my mom would praise Kim — which is what you do on someone’s birthday, you praise the birthday person. I just, like, try to stare at Kourt, like subtly. Like, ‘Is she OK? What’s happening?’”

Luckily, we’re just one episode closer to seeing how it all goes down!

New episodes of The Kardashians air on Thursdays on Hulu.
