The Nimona movie Netflix release day is almost here, which means fans of this sci-fi graphic novel will finally get to see their favorite shape-shifting hero on the big screen. (Well, on a screen, at least, even if it’s not that big.)

It’s been a long journey for the film adaptation of the popular 2015 graphic novel by ND Stevenson. Once upon a time, the Nimona movie was supposed to be released in 2020, by the former Fox subsidiary Blue Sky Studios. Then Disney, after acquiring Fox, shut-down Blue Sky Studios and eventually canned the Nimona movie. (Some suspect one of the reasons was the fact that one of the main characters in the film is gay.) Luckily, Netflix swooped in to rescue Nimona, and now fans will finally get to watch the movie.

The movie follows the story of a spunky shape-shifter, Nimona (voiced by Chloë Grace Moretz), who insists on teaming up with a disgraced knight, Ballister Blackheart (voiced by Riz Ahmed). Ballister is a former knight who became a wanted man after someone framed him for murdering the queen. Now he and Nimona must work together to prove his innocence.
