Jonathan Majors‘ alleged years of abusive behavior are being detailed in length by an explosive Rolling Stone report published yesterday (June 29). The report comes after Majors was arrested in March for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend. He recently filed a complaint against the unnamed woman, claiming he was actually the victim, not her.

The outlet spoke with more than 40 people who knew Majors throughout his time in graduate school at Yale, or through his Hollywood career and his romantic relationships. According to nine sources, the Marvel star “strangled” one woman he was dating, while another ex told her friends that dating him was “emotional torture.” Both women declined to comment to Rolling Stone out of fear of retribution.

During his relationship with one woman, Majors was allegedly romantic at first, before their relationship turned to “really extreme abuse, physically and mentally,” per Rolling Stone. And while a second woman told her friends that Majors was never physically abusive with her, she claimed that there were moments of “near violence” where he would “get filled with rage.”

Another source claimed to Rolling Stone that Majors was “controlling” with this woman — to the point where he wanted to be in charge of everything from what she ate to the people she interacted with.

“She said on a few occasions that he wanted her to believe that he was the oxygen in the room [and] that she could not live without him,” the source said.

Majors’ legal team told Rolling Stone that he “vehemently denies” the “false allegations that he physically, verbally, or emotionally abused anyone, let alone any of his past romantic partners.” They also provided six character witness statements from women he had dated or was close with.

In turn, Rolling Stone reached out to all six people — three of whom said they never gave the actor’s team permission to release the statements, while one said it was “pre-written, not truthful and that she never approved of its release,” and one did not respond. The only woman who consented to making her statement public dated the star from age 13 to 18 and described him as the “most self-controlled, disciplined, well-mannered person I know” who is “not violent in any way.”

Aside from his romantic relationships, Majors was also accused by two production members of pushing one person and “physically [intimidating] another while screaming at them” on the set of his upcoming movie, Magazine Dreams.

Majors’ allegedly volatile behavior seemingly dates back to his time attending Yale School of Drama, where he enrolled in 2013. According to six Yale alumni who spoke with Rolling Stone, the Creed III star was involved in “several confrontations and altercations” with his peers — including one that resulted in Yale administration sending out an email “reminder about rehearsal etiquette and violence” one day later.

“His behavior was very problematic for his class,” one Yale alumni said. “A lot of people felt in physical danger around him and certainly in mentally precarious positions because of him.”

In response to both the on-set instances and his former peers’ allegations, Majors’ legal team denied any wrongdoing.

“The allegations that Mr. Majors got physical with or physically intimidated anyone on any movie set are downright false,” they wrote to Rolling Stone. “Everyone who has worked with Mr. Majors knows that he employs an immersive Method acting style, and while that can be misconstrued as rudeness at times, those who know Mr. Majors and work in the industry have attested to his dedication to his craft as well as his kindness.”

They added that Majors “also denies any allegations of abuse, violence, or intimidation during his time at Yale.”

Since his March 2023 arrest, Majors has been dropped by his talent manager as well as his PR firm. He will go to trial on Aug. 3 for his recent domestic violence charges. In the meantime, he is preparing to star in two Marvel films after making his MCU debut as Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the WaspQuantumania, which premiered in February.

While Marvel has largely remained mum about the accusations against their new star, MCU vet Anthony Mackie recently weighed in and seemingly defended Majors. He told Inverse June 28, “We’re a country that was built on ‘everyone is innocent until proven guilty.’ That’s one of the staples of this country. Nothing has been proven about this dude. Nothing. So everyone is innocent until proven guilty. That’s all I can say.”

He added, “It’s crazy where we are as a society. But as a country, everyone is innocent until proven guilty.”
