The Sopranos star Michael Imperioli made his view on the Supreme Court’s recent anti-LGBTQ decision loud and clear this weekend when he forbade “bigots and homophobes” from watching his work.

After the Supreme Court ruled that Colorado web designer Lorie Smith can refuse to design wedding websites for same-sex couples, the actor slammed the decision in an Instagram post shared on Friday (June 30).

“I’ve decided to forbid bigots and homophobes from watching The Sopranos, The White Lotus, Goodfellas or any movie or tv show I’ve been in,” he wrote. “Thank you Supreme Court for allowing me to discriminate and exclude those who I don’t agree with and am opposed to. USA! USA!”

The actor doubled down in the comments of the post, writing, “America is becoming dumber and dumber by the minute,” and “Hate and ignorance is not a legitimate point of view.”

Imperioli has never held back from sharing his political views on Instagram, where he’s been known to share political posts in between his tour date announcements and meditation classes. However, according to him, his followers don’t often take it well.

“[They were like], ‘How could you Chrissy! Tony would be spinning in his [grave].’ Weird shit like that,” he told Vice in 2020. “If you’re going to be a fan of mine, watch my stuff, I’d rather you know who I am than not. And if you don’t like it, I don’t really give a fuck.”

The Supreme Court’s conservative majority ruled in favor of Smith in a 6-3 decision on Friday, saying that forcing her to design the websites would violate her First Amendment rights. Per AP, Justice Sonia Sotomayor slammed the decision, saying it “grants a business open to the public a constitutional right to refuse to serve members of a protected class.”

President Joe Biden called the decision “disappointing” and said it “weakens long-standing laws that protect all Americans against discrimination.”

The decision closely followed the Supreme Court ruling to strike down affirmative action and reject President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan.
