Although Season 5 of The Rookie just finished airing in May, fans of the ABC procedural are already looking for updates on Season 6 – especially after lead actor Nathan Fillion shared a video from set this weekend.

“Some of you are wondering when you see me writing on my little notepad as John Nolan in the role call room … what am I writing?” he said in the social media post. “Well, that’s an excellent question. Let’s take a look.”

The actor flipped through the notebook, where he eventually landed on a page that read, “Have Eric Winter fired for making that joke about my hair,” referring to his Rookie co-star.

“Maybe don’t tell Eric you saw that,” Fillion joked.

Fans went wild in the comments, speculating whether this meant the show had already begun production on Season 6. The show has already been renewed at ABC so it’s only a matter of time, especially considering that the series has become one of the network’s Top 5 most-viewed scripted series.

So, when should fans expect The Rookie Season 6 to come out?

When will Season 6 of The Rookie come out?

The Rookie was renewed for Season 6 in April, just before the Season 5 finale aired on ABC. A premiere date has not been announced yet.

ABC’s fall schedule will instead focus on unscripted titles such as Dancing With The Stars and Celebrity Jeopardy due to the writers strike, while scripted shows such as The Rookie are potentially being saved for a midseason premiere. Previous seasons of The Rookie typically premiered in the Fall before returning in the Spring, so fans should expect the premiere of The Rookie Season 6 to be pushed back if the writers strike continues. The looming specter of a potential Screen Actors Guild (SAG) strike could also throw a wrench in the works.

The short version? You definitely won’t see The Rookie Season 6 until 2024, and this video above is not from a currently in-production season. Sorry!

What can I watch The Rookie on?

For now, fans can stream all five seasons of The Rookie on Hulu.

Hulu is also home to its spin-off series The Rookie: Feds, which stars Niecy Nash as Special Agent Simone Clark, the oldest rookie at the FBI academy.
