Childhood friends and comedy dynamic duo Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are known for bringing a hilariously outrageous shock factor, and their next venture is set to surpass all expectations.

Their newest “unbelievably shocking” project (in Rogen’s words) is Sausage Party: Foodtopia, a TV spinoff of their ridiculously raunchy R-rated 2016 animated film Sausage Party, which follows anthropomorphic food items in fear of being bought and eaten at a grocery store. Prime Video has bought eight episodes of the show, which will launch on the platform in 2024.

The spinoff will apparently give both new viewers and seasoned cast members a run for their money, particularly Kristen Wiig, who voiced hot dog bun Brenda Bunson in the original film. Rogen, who voiced Frank the sausage, recently spoke to Empire about a particular scene that he wanted those at Prime Video to watch ahead of time.

“There’s one specific scene that had a special screening for the Amazon PR people,” Rogen shared.

He continued, “You should all just start wrapping your heads around this now. You’ll probably have to talk about this a lot.”

He then recalled Wiig coming in to read lines one day, only to realize how outrageous the script is — even to those who have worked with him previously.

“I think we’ve all become desensitized to it, because we’ll just be like, ‘Roll the scene!’, and then [Wiig] was like, ‘Oh my God?! This is insane!’” he said.

Rogen and Goldberg regard their 2016 creation as a “remarkable opus” that “reached the pinnacle of what can be achieved with film,” per Empire, but said they are switching to television to continue the Sausage Party story because “film is completely dead and TV is the forever-king of entertainment.”

The two have deemed their next project to be a “soon-to-be-legendary televised masterpiece,” and have assured the public that “it’s got all the heart, double the puns, and triple the food-on-food sex,” what they believe to be “exactly what the world needs right now.”

While few details have been released about the project, fans can expect to see returning members of the star-studded cast, such as Jonah Hill and Michael Cera as Rogen’s fellow sausages Carl and Barry, Edward Norton as Sammy Bagel Jr., and David Krumholtz as Lavash, per IndieWire. The outlet also revealed some newcomers to the culinary cast of characters: Will Forte, Sam Richardson, Natasha Rothwell and Yassir Lester.

For those awaiting the likely food orgy-filled fare in store in the new series, you can stream Sausage Party on Prime Video.
