Prime Video just released the trailer for Harlan Coben‘s mystery thriller series Shelter, and it has us on the edge of our seats.

Coben is known for his YA mysteries and thrillers,  and his latest series — which is based on his 2011 trilogy — is the first to be released on Prime Video. Previous adaptations of Coben’s work have been released on Netflix.

Shelter follows Mickey Bolitar (Jaden Michael), a teenager who has just lost his father in a car crash. The show is set in the fictional town of Kasselton, New Jersey, which is based on Coben’s hometown of Livingston, New Jersey.

In today’s fresh trailer, Mickey discovers the “Bat Lady” (Tovah Feldshuh), whom he describes to his friends as an “old lady with long gray hair,” and whom his friend Spoon (Adrian Greensmith) calls “our town bogeyman.” Mickey recalls to his friends that “she called out [his] name and told [him his] dad was still alive.”

What he and his friends Spoon and Ema (Abby Corrigan) brush off as nothing quickly becomes something after a girl named Ashely who Mickey met at school disappears. Mickey is drawn back to the mysterious house where he first met the “Bat Lady,” and “can’t walk away” from investigating multiple town disappearances.

After a montage of clips revealing Mickey and his friends setting out to find answers to this spooky suburban mystery, his aunt Shira (Constance Zimmer) is shown saying, “Everybody has secrets, Mickey.”

While the trailer is certainly thrilling, it also features comedic elements, particularly in the dialogue between the three friends.

The first three episodes of Shelter will be released on Friday, August 18, with the following new episodes being released each Friday until September 22.

In the meantime, check out the trailer above.
