How I Met Your Father’s Season 2 finale came in like a hurricane with an unexpected make-out session, several breakups, a long-awaited makeup, and a scream-worthy reveal in its final seconds.

The last two episodes of Season 2 — which premiered on Hulu July 11 — kicked off with Sophie (Hilary Duff), Valentina (Francia Raisa), Sid (Suraj Sharma), Ellen (Tien Tran), and Charlie (Tom Ainsley) helping Jesse (Christopher Lowell) pack up his belongings to move in with his new girlfriend, Parker (Meaghan Rath). In Season 2’s penultimate episode, “Shady Parker,” How I Met Your Mother’s famous Sandy Rivers (Alexis Denisof) announces a literal hurricane is coming. And though the friends are safe and dry in Sid and Jesse’s apartment, the extreme weather puts Hannah’s (Ashley Reyes) travel plans from LA in jeopardy.

As Val spends the episode trying to track down the love song Jesse wrote Sophie, Sophie and Sid try to prove Parker is “shady” so they can expose her before Jesse takes their relationship to the next level. After finding a credit card with a man’s name on it and three mysterious prescription bottles in Parker’s purse, Sophie invites Drew (Josh Peck) over in hopes of getting more dirt on Jesse’s girl. Sophie and Sid call the last school Parker was employed at and after the principal fails to recognize her name, they come clean to Jesse and claim Parker isn’t who she says she is. As is often the case, there’s a reasonable explanation for everything! The credit card belongs to Parker’s brother and the pills are for her mom, who’s recovering from a bad rock climbing accident. Oh, and that principal just started at Parker’s old school, but he later confirms the staff loved her. Yikes! Parker heads home and as Sid and Sophie profusely apologize to an irritated Jesse, the power goes out and the end credits roll.

So what does How I Met Your Father’s Season 2 finale have in store? Do Jesse and Sophie finally open up about their feelings for each other? Does Hannah make it home to Sid safely? And are Parker and Drew history? Decider’s How I Met Your Father Season 2, Episode 20 recap has all the answers.

How I Met Your Father Season 2 Ending Explained:

How I Met Your Father’s Season 2 finale, “Okay Fine, It’s a Hurricane,” kicks off with the group relocating to Pemberton’s to test out Sid’s backup generator, which lasts several whole seconds before crapping out. A dreamy-eyed Drew makes Sophie a drink. Val comforts Charlie, who’s terrified of the storm. Jesse announces he’s going to check on Parker, only to realize the storm is too bad. And in a twist, Hannah — who flew out early — bursts through the door ahead of schedule and surprises Sid.

Shortly after Hannah’s arrival, Ellen receives a text from her that reads, “Eli please dont text me again it was a one-time thing.” Forget Shady Parker, it’s Shady Hannah time now! It’s clear Hannah accidentally texted Ellen an incriminating message meant for a mysterious Eli, and when Ellen calls her out in the bathroom, Hannah reveals she made a mistake and kissed someone, but shut down the connection and wasn’t planning to tell Sid. Ellen says if Hannah doesn’t come clean tonight, she’ll tell Sid herself. But before that drama goes down, we check back in with Drew, who’s crushing on Sophie and is under the impression the feelings are mutual.

Sadly for him, Sophie reveals she doesn’t want “Take Two of Drew” and is still into Jesse. So Drew takes the high road and tells Sophie he found a love song Jesse wrote about her on the back of a receipt. Yes, the same one Val has been searching for since Lost & Found night! “I felt like if you ever knew that, I would never stand a chance,” Drew says, before casually pulling the receipt out of his wallet (!) and giving it to her.

A stunned Sophie confronts Jesse about the song and calls him a coward. “If you had all these feelings then you should have told me,” she says. “You had feelings for me too! I felt it a million times this year,” he replies, citing Valentine’s Day and the night he taught her to drive. Sophie admits she hasn’t gotten over him, but says the last time they tried to take the next step she’s the one who got burned, while he got back with his ex Meredith (Leighton Meester). Jesse turns the tables and calls Sophie the coward for freaking out after he said, “I love you.” Then he storms out into the storm and risks his life to head to Parker’s place. That’s when the episode kicks into high gear.

Do Sid And Hannah Break Up?

After chatting with Sid, Ellen tells Hannah she doesn’t have to come clean about the kiss, but Hannah’s already made up her mind. She tells Sid everything and he says he’ll eventually forgive her. Then he opens up about his short-lived emotional affair with Taylor, though Hannah guessed he was going to say SOPHIE! (Father foreshadowing?! If so, we called it.)

It seems like the two are back on track until Hannah explains how fast she raced to leave Eli behind and get back to Sid, which causes Sid to question what she was running from if she was so sure Eli was a one-time thing. Though we don’t hear the words straight from Sid or Hannah, by the end of the episode Sid is sulking alone at the bar, which leads us to believe the show’s strongest couple broke up and called off their engagement. So does anyone end Season 2 on a hopeful note?

Do Sophie And Jesse Get Together?

After her fight with Jesse, Sophie retreats to the supply closet to be alone, but Val — frustrated by her and Charlie’s inability to be together — stops her from sulking and tells her to go get her man. Sophie takes Val’s advice, runs out into the hurricane, and bumps into none other than Jesse on the sidewalk. He tells her he made it all the way to Parker’s apartment, but as soon as she opened the door he realized he wasn’t over Sophie. They each admit they’re terrified of getting their hearts broken, agree not to hurt each other, both say “I love you,” and share a romantic hurricane makeout set to “Forever Young.” (Ted and Robin would be so proud!)

Their moment is unfortunately cut short when Sophie starts coughing from taking in too much water. And when they go inside to share the good news with everyone, they find Sad Sid sitting at the bar and keep their joy to themselves. But make no mistake, Sophie and Jesse are indeed back together by the end of Season 2. That just leaves us to check in on Val and Charlie. (BTW, can we get Ellen another love story ASAP? Thanks.)

Are Valentina And Charlie Endgame?

After spending the majority of the day connecting, Charlie and Val share a sweet moment when he tells her that despite their different desires for the future, if he could go back to the night they first met, he’d leave his family and money behind all over again. In a twist, Val and Charlie don’t wind up locking lips in this episode. Why? She’s too busy MAKING OUT WITH DREW IN THE SUPPLY CLOSET!

Before the episode ends, adult Sophie (Kim Cattrall) tells her son (and viewers) that their hookup was a “total disaster,” but says if her two heartbroken, vulnerable friends hadn’t gotten together that night she doesn’t think Charlie and Val would have ever had ALEX! Before the end credits roll, we see a photo of Charlie and Val and their child, which means Charlie and Val might be endgame after all, and Charlie is almost certainly NOT the father (of Sophie’s son), which is good, because we never wanted him to be!

Jesse, Sid, Ian, and I guess Drew, are still in the running. And though we ship Sophie with all four potential daddies, it’s looking more and more like Sid might be the titular father with each passing season.
