With the fourth and final season of Netflix‘s Sex Education approaching on Sept. 21, fans are already mourning the loss of the hit comedy. And while they’re sad to say goodbye to the show, series star Ncuti Gatwa doesn’t seem to be as bummed.

According to People, Gatwa told Rolling Stone UK on Monday (July 10) about his struggles with navigating the show’s creative direction, citing the difficulties of “telling stories that haven’t been seen before.”

“It was very hard; it was such a big show,” he shared. “When you’re telling stories that haven’t been seen before, there’s always a battle as to how to tell them. It wasn’t always joyous. I feel like we’ve outgrown it and we’ve given everything we can to it.”

Gatwa, who plays high school student Eric Effiong in the series, is now 30 years old.

Netflix released the trailer for the new season of Sex Education on July 5. The first look shows series star Otis (Asa Butterfield) giving a speech to students at another school, where Gatwa’s Eric, Otis’ best friend, is present. When Otis mistakenly says, “I learned everything I know about sex from my mum,” and confuses the audience into thinking he is in “a sexual relationship with [his] mother,” Eric attempts to save him from further humiliation, yelling out, “Otis, for goodness sake, just tell them you’re a sex therapist!”

While Gatwa is preparing to bid goodbye to his Netflix show, he has some exciting projects in his queue, including a role in one of the summer’s biggest movies: Gawta is playing one of the many versions of Ken in the new Barbie. He was also named the next lead of BBC’s Doctor Who, succeeding Jodie Whittaker as the 15th Doctor and the first Black lead of the sci-fi series.

In what seems to be a hybrid homage to his highly anticipated projects, a pink TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension in Space) police call box has been placed on the banks of the Tower Bridge in London, according to Huff Post UK.

If you can’t wait until Sept. 21 to see Gatwa on-screen, you can watch the first three seasons of Sex Education now on Netflix, or catch the actor in Barbie, which premieres in theaters July 21.
