Disney Swiftly Denies Alleged ‘Snow White’ Reboot Leaked Set Photos Are Legit: “The Photos are Fake”

A storm of conservative backlash descended upon Disney‘s upcoming Snow White live-action remake after The Daily Mail released photos that the publication claimed to be from the production. The only problem? Disney claims the photos are “fake.”

“The photos are fake and not from our production. We are currently trying to have the Daily Mail issue a correction,” a Disney spokesperson told The Daily Beast.

The Daily Mail article, titled “Snow White and the Seven… Politically-Correct Companions?”, claimed to show a first look at Rachel Zegler starring as the live-action princess and her “magical companions.”

The photos, the publication alleges, shows a “stand-in princess walking with diverse band of merry men and women.” The publication claims the photos were taken on set in Bedfordshire.

The article sparked a conservative outrage as people online slammed Disney over the photos and their decision to cast a Colombian actress to play the Disney princess. “They want to traumatise children. BOYCOTT DISNEY,” one user tweeted.

But, as The Daily Beast notes, Zegler claimed filming already wrapped in July 2022.

Disney announced in 2022 that it would take “a different approach” to the movie after Peter Dinklage shared his criticism on the live-action remake.

“Literally no offense to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White — but you’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” he said during an appearance on Marc Maron‘s WTF podcast, per The Hollywood Reporter. “Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me.”

He continued, “You’re progressive in one way, but then you’re still making that fucking backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together? What the fuck are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.”

Disney responded to his criticisms, stating, “To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community.”

Snow White is currently slated to release on March 22, 2024.

But if you can’t wait, the actress can be seen in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes when it premieres in theaters on November 17.
