The Blacklist finally bid farewell to James Spader‘s professional criminal Raymond “Red” Reddington with its two-part series finale that aired Thursday (July 13) night.

The actor successfully carried the series through to the end with his eccentric character, even after series lead Megan Boone stepped away from the show after Season 8. The series has remained a reliable performer for NBC, and has only become more popular through its streaming deal with Netflix.

Season 9 saw the Task Force reunite after Elizabeth Keen’s death. But, after successfully clearing Harold Cooper’s name and driving Reddington back into hiding, the explosive season ended with a new opponent for Red and the Task Force: Wujing (Chin Han), a Blacklister from Season 1 who manages to finally escape prison and gather other Blacklisters to take Red down.

But Reddington finds himself facing an opponent he can’t out-run in The Blacklist Season 10 ending.  (SEASON 10 SPOILERS AHEAD)

The Blacklist Ending Explained

In Season 10, Wujing allied himself with other Blacklisters to hunt Reddington down. But the Task Force find an even bigger opponent in Congressman Arthur Hudson (Toby Leonard Moore) who begins investigating their work after noticing the government is spending significant sums on the covert unit.

Hudson takes drastic measures to get the dirt on the Task Force, including bugging Agent Donald Ressler’s phone. The evidence he finds helps him begin a formal investigation after he receives orders to shut the Task Force down permanently.

The two-part season finale that aired last night showed Hudson and the Strike Force team trying to hunt Reddington down after he attempted to fake his death in the previous episode.

The first episode, titled “Raymond Reddington: Pt. 1,” ended in Reddington fatally shooting Hudson after the congressman shot his former bodyguard and companion, Dembe Zuma (Hisham Tawfiq.) Meanwhile, the Task Force is trying to locate Reddington, who swiftly escapes to Spain.

The second episode, titled “Raymond Reddington: Good Night,” shows the professional criminal making one last phone call to Dembe as well as his granddaughter Agnes Keen, who has been staying with Agent Harold Cooper (Harry Lennix) since Elizabeth’s death.

After enjoying a walk through the Spanish countryside, he finds himself facing one opponent he might not be able to escape: an angry bull charging straight at him.

The Task Force finally catches up to Reddington in Spain, but they find him dead, still bloody from his run-in with the bull.
