Not everyone is glowing over The Golden Bachelor. After Gerry Turner was revealed as first mature star suitor for ABC’s Bachelor spinoff, The View weighed in on the highly anticipated dating show, which will air on the network this fall.

After some ooo-ing and ah-ing over Turner’s silver fox status — “He could buy me a drink at a bar,” Sunny Hostin said, while Alyssa Farah Griffin chimed in, “That is a good looking 71-year-old” — the panel got down to business.

While Ana Navarro confessed that Turner is “right down [her] alley,” she didn’t hold back when sharing her reservations about The Golden Bachelor.

“I actually don’t like these shows. I hate the idea of people competing when it comes to love,” Navarro said, but added that she knows her views aren’t so popular, considering the proliferation of reality dating shows on streamers and networks over the years.

“You know what I would like to see? I’d like to see some queer Bachelor competition, if we’re gonna compete. I’d love to see that,” Navarro said.

ABC has never aired a queer season of The Bachelor or any of its spinoffs, although the show has featured LGBTQ+ competitors and past stars have since come out as queer. In 2019, the franchise featured its first-ever queer proposal when contestants Demi Burnett and Kristian Haggerty proposed to one another.

Other Bachelor stars have come out after their time on the show, including Elizabeth Corrigan, who came out as queer in June; and Colton Underwood, who came out as gay in 2021 after starring as The Bachelor‘s Season 23 lead.

Although ABC has yet to announce any official plans for a queer Bachelor spin-off, one star has already thrown his hat in the ring to host the hypothetical series. Lance Bass, who has been married to husband Michael Turchin since 2014, told Variety last year that he would “be so down” to lead the show.

“If you want the most dramatic season ever, do an LGBT version,” Bass told the outlet, adding, “I think maybe it’s the time for The Bachelor to do a gay Bachelor. I think that would be so much fun.”

In the meantime, Navarro and any others hoping for a queer Bachelor can always turn to Logo’s 2016 show Finding Prince Charming, in which 13 gay men battled for the affections of Robert Sepuvelda Jr. Bass himself hosted the high-drama series, which was canceled after one season.

And if you’re looking for even more, there’s Netflix’s The Ultimatum: Queer Love, which debuted on the platform in May.

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
