Devon Sawa‘s Final Destination appearances may not have ended with the original film in 2000 — but, according to the actor, his paycheck did. In a since-deleted tweet, Sawa claimed he was “never paid a cent” for his cameo in Final Destination 5.

Sawa, who played the lead character in the first movie, revealed that he didn’t even know he would be in the fifth installment of the franchise when he was asked to attend the red carpet back in 2011.

“I never got paid a cent for Final Destination 5,” he wrote, per Comicbook.com. “They didn’t even tell me I was in it when they invited me to the premiere.”

While Sawa didn’t film his cameo in person, his first contract stated that the studio owned all archival footage and could use it in the future. However, he “assumed” it would be used for “press” — not as part of another movie. Despite this, he has no hard feelings toward those involved in Final Destination 5.

“This has nothing to do with the filmmakers by the way,” he added. “I loved FD5. I love them all to be completely honest. And I’m super excited to see number 6.”

In a later tweet, Sawa revealed that he didn’t “have the right to be angry” — which is why he chose to delete his first post.

“It’s a touché moment. I signed the contract,” he said. “The scene was undeniably very clever and why pay me if you don’t have to. Also worth noting, I was 19.”

Sawa’s admission comes amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike — which began last week after negotiations between studios and the union failed to reach an agreement. As of Friday (July 14), members of the organization — which is made up of 160,000 people — joined the Writers Guild of America (WGA) on the picket lines.

Like many actors, Sawa has been outspoken over the issue on social media. He even changed his Twitter profile photo to a graphic supporting the strike.

“Someone asked why I was being an asshole and I straight up told them that I’m on strike and can no longer pretend to like them,” he joked in a tweet.

Decider reached out to Warner Bros. Discovery for comment on Sawa’s claims about Final Destination 5 but did not hear back by the time of publication.
