Whoopi Goldberg is setting the facts straight after Ana Navarro claimed Bill Geddie, The View‘s former executive producer who died last week at 68 years old, was responsible for Joy Behar‘s abrupt 2013 firing.

On Monday morning’s (July 24) episode, the ladies welcomed former co-host Sherri Shepherd to the Hot Topics table, where they discussed Geddie’s legacy at the long-running daytime talk show. In case you didn’t know, he co-created The View with Barbara Walters in 1997, where he remained as the EP until 2014.

While the women praised Geddie for changing their lives with the show and always having their backs, they also joked about his “tough love” and “cranky” attitude. Amid the chat, Navarro chimed in telling the group that he was the one who hired Behar in 1997 and fired her in 2013 — yet the comedian “still loves him.”

Since Behar — who came back to the show full-time in 2015 — was absent as she typically is on Mondays, Goldberg was left to fact-check her co-host.

“He didn’t fire Joy,” she snapped, before Sunny Hostin added, “That was the next generation.”

Behar often pokes fun at her sudden firing — like the time she said she was “glad” to be let go from the show because she was “sick” of it after 16 years. However, she’s never specifically named who was responsible for giving her the boot — even though Geddie and Walters were in charge at the time.

“Somebody wanted me gone,” Bear told People in 2017. “The way I heard it, and I don’t know what’s true because you never know, they got rid of a Republican so they wanted to get rid of a Democrat. That’s not the first time I’ve been fired for my politics. So I wasn’t shocked at that analysis.”

With Hostin hinting at the “next generation,” it could have been Bill Wolff, who joined the show in 2014, before passing the torch to current EP Brian Teta the following year — but there has been no confirmation.

Decider has reached out to The View for comment but did not hear back by the time of publication.

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
