Henry Cavill‘s final episodes of The Witcher dropped on Netflix this morning, marking the end of an era and the start of something new. The final three episodes of The Witcher Season 3 put poor Geralt through the paces.

**Spoilers for The Witcher Season 3: Volume 2 ahead!**

First, the titular character has to deal with his failure to mark Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu) as the real existential threat to Ciri (Freya Allan). After a grueling duel with the dark mage, Geralt is just about left for dead. His friends manage to save him and he spends months, we’re told, in the care of the Dryads. For a time, it appears that Geralt is doomed. Nothing the magical creatures do seems to help heal his aggressive wounds. So does Geralt die in The Witcher Season 3: Volume 2? Is that how Henry Cavill leaves the Netflix show? By dying?!?

Worried that The Witcher might kill Henry Cavill off? Curious what Cavill’s final scene as Geralt of Rivia means? Wondering how the story might move forward with Liam Hemsworth in the role? Hoping Hemsworth takes over the mantle Doctor Who-style at the end of the season? Too busy to binge The Witcher and you just want to know how Henry Cavill leaves the show? We got you covered…

Does Geralt Die in The Witcher Season 3: Volume 2? Does The Witcher Kill Henry Cavill Off?

At one point, things look pretty grim for dear old Geralt. When he’s left with the Dryads, Milva (Meng’er Zhang) declares that he’s dying. Eithné (Lorna Brown) insists that he can be saved and gifts him a brooch that once belonged to Renfri (Emma Appleton). Geralt struggles to recuperate, though. In fact, he only eventually gets better months later when Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) comes and uses magic to heal him.

So, no, Geralt doesn’t die in The Witcher. He heals, makes a makeshift elixir, and embarks on a journey with Jaskier (Joey Batey) to Nilfgaard to save Ciri. (Little do our heroes know that Vilgefortz’s fake Ciri experiments have worked and there is a doppelganger in Nilfgaard. Ciri ends the season in league with the Rats.

If Geralt doesn’t die, then how does Henry Cavill leave The Witcher?

How Does Henry Cavill Leave The Witcher?

Henry Cavill’s final fight scene in The Witcher is one that brings him full circle to how his time on the show began.

As Geralt and Jaskier approach the border into Nilfgaard, they notice that travelers are being forced to bribe officers to gain entry into the empire. Geralt offers up the jeweled brooch that once belonged to Renfri (against Jaskier’s advice) and it seems that’s that. We then hear Yennefer’s voice narrating a letter to Geralt as the witcher sees the guards bully a poor family: “Dear friend, you once told me of a dream where you were wandering through boundless fields towards and obelisk carved with names of the dead. A woman with cold blue eyes was following you. You knew her because she had dogged your every footstep. ‘Why?’ you asked her.”

At this point, Geralt turns back and asks the guards why don’t they leave the family alone and let them through. The same guard Geralt paid off with the brooch then suggests he might take the little girl with the family home to sexually assault her. Geralt snaps and begins fighting these men as Yennefer continues.

“‘Was it because you were meant to end up alone? Was it because she wanted you, a witcher who needed no one, to finally be afraid?’ You told her the truth. You’d always been afraid. Until now. Because she’d taken everything from you which means she’d also taken the fear.”

Geralt persists in butchering the awful guards as Yennefer goes on: “You and I, we now know what it means to need. To love. To lose it all. Neutrality be damned. We are no longer afraid.”

Although Geralt narrowly faces defeat at the end, but Milva comes to his aid. Geralt does leave one Nilfgaardian alive to send a message to Emperor Emhyr (Bart Edwards) that he will save Ciri. Neutrality be damned. He’s in open opposition against the Empire now.

Yennefer finishes her missive by saying, “I know in my heart, Geralt, you will find Ciri. And I will make sure there’s a safe world for her to return to. And if we must face the cold blue eyes of death, we will. But we will be the last to fall. Of that I am sure.”

Geralt leaves Renfri’s brooch where it lays and embarks on his quest with Jaskier and Milva at his side. He is no longer haunted by his failure, but emboldened by love.

Is Liam Hemsworth in The Witcher Season 3?

Nope! Liam Hemsworth is not in The Witcher Season 3. However he will eventually take up the mantle of Geralt of Rivia from Henry Cavill when he joins the cast of The Witcher Season 4.
