In Netflix’s steamy, sex-filled thriller Fatal Seduction, a woman’s extra-marital affair results in a wild whodunnit after the woman’s best friend ends up dead, and her husband and lover both become suspects. The second part of this sexy series is now out, and hopefully we’ll finally learn how all of these people’s lies and deceptions will play out and WHO KILLED BRENDA.

FATAL SEDUCTION VOL. 2: STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?

Opening Shot: Leonard comes to, blood on his face, after having been knocked out. His brother Vuyo stands over him with a gun cocked and pointing at Leonard’s face.

The Gist: Volume 1 of Fatal Seduction laid out a very tangled web of murder and illicit affairs. To recap briefly, Nandi (Kgomotso Christopher), a married law professor, has an affair with Jacob (Prince Grootboom) while on a girls’ weekend with her best friend Brenda (Lunathi Mampofu), but Nandi only cheats because she thinks her husband Leonard (Thapelo Mokoena) is also a cheater. At the end of the weekend, Brenda is dead, and basically everyone becomes a suspect and we learn that several people had motive to kill her, especially Jacob. It turns out, Nandi and Jacob’s hookup was not so random, and he’s been stalking her family for years, ever since Leonard helped convict Jacob’s father Benjamin of rape based on a false statement Leonard convinced Brenda to make. Benjamin eventually killed himself as a result. Leonard’s brother Vuyo, an investigator, knew Benjamin was innocent all along, and that is one of many tensions between the brothers. The other is that Vuyo was once in love with Nandi.

When Volume 2 picks up, it’s only moments after the events of Volume 1: Leonard and Vuyo are in the midst of an intense physical fight where Leonard admits to his brother that he was having a secret, years-long affair with Brenda when he convinced her to lie in her testimony for him. But even more than that, we learn that Brenda became violent when Leonard threatened to break things off, which makes him all the more suspicious when it comes to her death.

Nandi, meanwhile, has been worried that Jacob wants to hurt her family, and she freaks out when she learns that her daughter, Zinhle (Ngele Ramulondi) skipped her classes to run off with him for the day (and lose her virginity to him). Nandi forces Leonard to call the cops, worried that her daughter is now in serious danger, and when he wonders why she’s so upset, Nandi comes clean, revealing her affair, and that Jacob has run off with their daughter.

What Shows Will It Remind You Of? There are a lot of similarities between Fatal Seduction and the Netflix thriller Obsession, but Jacob’s storyline is also reminiscent of the ABC series Revenge, in which Emily VanCamp’s character infiltrated a wealthy community in the Hamptons in order to avenge her father.

Our Take: Jacob was something of a mystery during volume one, but now that we know exactly what his relationship is to Leonard and his family, he’s become the most intriguing character, especially because he’s now involving Nandi and Leonard’s daughter Zee into his scheme. Even though he already revealed his revenge motive to Nandi last season, telling her he wanted to make Leonard’s family pay after Leonard helped destroy Jacob’s family, we’re finally seeing his full plan set in motion, and he seems more dangerous now than ever. But the twist is that Leonard also had a big secret, that he was carrying on with Brenda, Nandi’s best friend, for years, and now it seems like he, more than anyone, had a reason to kill her. Oh, and Vuyo? Leonard’s long-suffering brother who seems to be the keeper of everyone’s secrets has some major secrets of his own that eventually come to light.

This season’s seven episodes are so chock-full of new surprises that finding Brenda’s killer becomes incidental and by the end and the real mystery is who here is even telling the truth about anything. There’s a lot to keep track of but the show definitely keeps viewers on their toes thanks to the way every episode ups the ante. Do you want mothers and daughters screwing the same guy? Do you want shocking paternity reveals? And how did Brenda die, anyway?? All will be revealed by the end, but everything you thought you knew about the main characters will be upended by then, too.

Sex and Skin: True to its name, the seduction in the show is plentiful and in the first episode of the new volume, we see Leonard and Nandi having sex in present day spliced in with a flashback of Leonard cheating on Nandi with Brenda, who asks him to flog her with a sex toy. Layers of sex upon sex!

Parting Shot: Nandi comes clean to Leonard, revealing that she slept with Jacob and tells him that she fears that he has kidnapped Zee. Leonard, having called the police, tells Nandi not to say a word about Jacob to the cops when they arrive. “I’m sorry,” Nandi cries, as Leonard walks away from her.

Sleeper Star: Prince Grootboom, who plays Jacob, doesn’t just have a great name, he’s also become the key to the series at this point. In volume two, he’s not just focused on toying with Nandi, he’s targeting everyone in her family to exact his revenge.

Most Pilot-y Line: “I will take care of everything. And I mean everything,” Leonard says when he learns that Jacob has been infiltrating his family.

Our Call: Each volume of Fatal Seduction consists of seven 30-minute episodes, and most of the show’s biggest mysteries are answered by the end of volume two (though things are left open-ended for future volumes). It’s a perfect, satisfying binge if you want an addictive mystery with loads of sex and even more wild plot twists. STREAM IT!
