The 2010 film Grown Ups has become one of the most notable comedy movies from Adam Sandler. Despite its 10% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, the film has become quite iconic for its star-studded ensemble cast and insane lake house shenanigans.

In addition to Sandler, who co-wrote the movie with Fred Wolf, Grown Ups stars Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider as five childhood friends who reunite as adults with their families following their old basketball coach’s death. The old friends meet up at a lake house by Amoskeag Lake and continue their hilarious reunion through water parks, restaurants, and more. But is Amoskeag Lake even real? Where was Grown Ups filmed?

If you’re looking to plan a summertime lake house vacation with friends and family Adam Sandler-style, here’s what we know about the Grown Ups filming locations.

Where was Grown Ups filmed?

The majority of the film was shot in Essex, Massachusetts, which is not home to the fictional Amoskeag Lake, but it does house the very real Chebacco Lake. According to lakehomes.com, Adam Sandler and the ‘90s Saturday Night Live crew spent their days on set at Chebacco Lake, “a 209-acre reservoir that is considered a ‘Great Pond,’ meaning that it is owned by the state of Massachusetts but is open to the public for recreational use.”

A key scene in the movie takes place at the fake restaurant “Woodman’s Eat in the Rough.” The location used to film the scene is a real-life eatery called Woodman’s of Essex. The Grown Ups production team shut down the restaurant for three days in June, marking the first time the restaurant had closed in over 95 years.

For the iconic water park sequence, the cast put on their swimsuits and headed to Water Wizz, the name of the theme park both in the movie and in real life. While the water probably won’t turn blue when you pee at the Wareham, Massachusetts water park, the rest of the theme park fun is completely real and available to visit.

Lastly, the emotional funeral scene in the movie is shot at the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Southborough, Massachusetts, where the beloved basketball coach was honored.
