Tonight, the first season of NBC‘s LA Fire & Rescue is coming to a close. The reality series grants viewers insight on the day-to-day experiences of the real-life heroes from the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD), including firefighters, paramedics and lifeguards.

The eighth and final episode of the show’s first installment, “Passing the Torch,” follows Station 37 Palmdale, one of the oldest and most beloved stations in the county. With the motto “Every Day’s a Holiday,” each day at Station 37 is jam-packed with calls requesting their help.

This exclusive clip features station captain Stan Maloof and station engineer Matt Alexander driving out to the scene, where they are met with an “impressive” grass fire that “has the potential to get much bigger,” in Maloof’s words.

“It’s far away from us, and it’s dark, [and] we have no idea what’s between us and that fire, but we’ve gotta get out there quickly,” Maloof explains. “If we don’t, the wind is going to take this thing running. There’s a lot of fuel between here and the next break, which is homes.”

Once the two arrive with the rest of the crew, they’re shown struggling with extending the hose’s reel line, which firefighter and paramedic Derek Alvizo shares “will only reach 300 feet” before it needs to be extended.

“Sometimes grass fires start in the middle of nowhere,” Alvizo, who followed in his stepdad’s footsteps when he joined the force, begins. “They don’t always start right next to the road. Parking far away sometimes, you definitely gotta account for that distance and the possibility of where it could go, so it can pose a little bit of a challenge.”

Tune into NBC tonight at 8 p.m. ET to catch Station 37 on the season finale of LA Fire & Rescue. Next-day streaming is available on Peacock.
