Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Heart of Stone on Netflix.

Anyone who watches the new Gal Gadot movie, Heart of Stone, on Netflix this weekend will be treated to the best possible jump scare: a surprise appearance from eight-time Oscar-nominated actor Glenn Close.

Directed by Tom Harper, with a screenplay from Greg Rucka and Allison Schroeder, Heart of Stone stars Gadot as an intelligence agent who works for a super-secret, super-elite organization known as The Charter. The Charter relies heavily on a powerful computer known as “the Heart,” so when enemies threaten to still the Heart, Gadot must do everything in her power to keep it safe. Whoever has the Heart could do considerable damage to the four leaders of The Charter, who go by card-related code names: King of Hearts, King of Clubs, King of Spades, and King of Diamonds. And that’s where eight-time Oscar-nominated actor Glenn Close comes in.

In an email to Decider, Heart of Stone director Tom Harper said he knew this was the perfect opportunity for a big-name cameo to provide gravitas to a small but vital role. “The King of Diamonds offered an opportunity for a juicy cameo as the character is the most powerful member of the Charter and has a complete, self-contained storyline,” he said.

Close appears about an hour into the movie, as the King of Diamonds, in a scene where all four heads confer with each. The scene is brief: Close walks the other Kings through the tragic backstory of Jamie Dornan’s character. And, of course, she kills it. Plus, she’s got an iconic look to boot: a wide, shoulder-padded dove jacket; a stylish silver broach; and sleek white hair that hangs down on one side. And, in fact, Harper said, she nearly had pink streaks in that hair—if Close had gotten her way.

“Glenn has such power and dynamism, and constantly makes bold and interesting decisions,” Harper wrote. “She said to me: ‘I want to cut my hair short for the role, have strands of pink in it, and wear a suit.’ I said “I love the short hair and the suit, but I’m not sure about the pink.’ She’s so striking and only needs seconds to make her presence known on screen, which is exactly what you want from a cameo role like this. She’s also one of the finest actors in cinema.”

Sadly, Close’s character does meet her untimely end before Gadot can save the day. But if they find a way to bring her back for the (possible) sequel, all I ask is that we let Glenn Close have the pink hair that she wants. We could have had it all.
