Aaron Taylor-Johnson became a star through big-time releases Godzilla and The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which premiered in theaters between 2014 and 2015. However, the big-time back-to-back blockbuster lifestyle was one he preferred to avoid.

“In my opinion, the actor that goes job to job becomes fucking boring,” Taylor-Johnson told Esquire. “You know that someone’s going to pick you up, take you to work, do your makeup, tell you, ‘Here’s your mark. These are your lines. You’re fucking great!’ And on to the next job. Fuck off.

While he expressed that he’s “sure people dream of that,” he noted that such work “doesn’t feed [his] soul.”

“I enjoy the normality of things, the everyday stuff,” he said. “Getting my kids ready in the mornings, taking them to school and activities—that’s plenty. That feeds my soul.”

According to People, the actor has been married to director Sam Taylor-Johnson for 11 years, and together co-parent four children together.

While he starred in Kick-Ass, Godzilla and Avengers successively, he revealed to Esquire that he “didn’t really care for them,” adding that he was considered for films “that nobody knows about” — particularly films that were part of “big, huge franchises.”

“I wanted, purely, to be with my babies,” he added. “I didn’t want to be taken away from them. I battled with what that would be like.”

Nonetheless, Taylor-Johnson is back shooting a blockbuster. Taylor-Johnson plays the titular role in Sony’s upcoming film Kraven the Hunter, which takes place in the Spider-Man universe, per Variety. Also known as Sergei Kravinoff, his character sets out to prove himself as the world’s greatest hunter.

Despite thinking that he was actually “done with these sorts of movies,” he highlighted that preparing for anything is essential when it comes to these kind of films, and that he doesn’t think he was “ready to invite that into [his] life earlier on.”

“You can’t step into this role, you can’t step into what this franchise is, with a fucking half-assed, ‘Let’s see how it goes attitude,’” he said. “You have to be mentally prepared for what could come with that. I think I’m secure in my life now to know that I’m happy to deal with that.”

Kraven the Hunter is slated to hit theaters Aug. 30.
