Scott Pilgrim fans are rallying around a fan-favorite character from Bryan Lee O’Malley’s hit graphic novels in hopes that she will make an appearance in Netflix’s upcoming anime series

The character Lisa Miller made her first appearance in the second novel in the series, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Despite the 2010 cult movie adaptation sharing the same name as the work, Lisa did not appear in the movie and was merely name-dropped by Aubrey Plaza’s Julie Powers.

Lisa, a soap opera actor, returns in the fourth book and causes tension between Scott Pilgrim and his girlfriend Ramona Flowers after expressing her interest in the eponymous character.

Devotees of the series kept their eyes peeled for Lisa in the teaser trailer for Netflix’s new 8-episode show Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, which sees the return of the cast of the 2010 movie reprising their roles. To their disappointment, the character did not appear in the short preview, nor was she listed in the credits.

Prior to the release of the trailer, fans were vocal about wanting the character to be in the series and were hopeful, given she’s a recurring figure in O’Malley’s work and he serves as a showrunner for the Netflix anime, alongside BenDavid Grabinski.

Following the release of the trailer, one fan posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), “I will murder things if there’s no Lisa Miller.” Another wrote, “If Lisa Miller shows up, I’m going to become the single most annoying person on your timeline.” And a third asked O’Malley directly, “I am so unbelievably hyped for this, but I must know: Is Lisa Miller going to be in it? Will Mae Whitman reprise her role?”

Cries for Lisa to appear in the anime series have also made their way to Reddit, where one fan claims they will “riot” if the character is absent.

In addition to the two aforementioned books, Miller also made appearances in the animated Adult Swim short “Scott Pilgrim vs. the Animation” and O’Malley’s follow-up comic to Scott Pilgrim called Seconds.

Unfortunately, there’s no sign of Lisa making an appearance in the series and she is not listed in any of the cast lists released by Netflix. However, all will be revealed soon as the show has set its release date for November 17, 2023.

As for now, if you’re a die-hard Scott Pilgrim fan reading this, please join me in manifesting the return of our problematic queen.
