Amazon has canceled The Peripheral after just one season.

The series, which is based on the William Gibson novel of the same name, had been renewed by the streamer back in February.

Starring Chloë Grace Moretz and executive produced by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan under their $150 million overall deal with Amazon, Season 1 of the show premiered on Prime Video on October 21, 2022.

According to Variety, the decision to cancel was largely influenced by the ongoing writers and actors strikes. Even if it did return to production, the next installment likely wouldn’t have premiered until 2025.

Per the official logline, the series “centers on Flynne Fisher (Moretz), a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America. Flynne is smart, ambitious, and doomed. She has no future; until the future comes calling for her.”

In addition to Moretz, Season 1 also starred Jack Reynor, Gary Carr, Eli Goree, Louis Herthum, JJ Feild, Charlotte Riley, Alexandra Billings, Katie Leung, Melinda Page Hamilton and others.

The show was developed by Scott B. Smith, who also served as executive producer and showrunner. Director Vincenzo Natali also served as executive producer along with Athena Wickham and Steven Hoban. Amazon Studios and Warner Bros. Television produced in association with Nolan and Joy’s Kilter Films.

Next up for Nolan and Joy on Amazon is a series based on the video game franchise Fallout. Although it has been reported that production on the series finished earlier this year, Prime Video has not yet announced a premiere date.
