Drew Barrymore has been in the spotlight for her entire life and has dedicated plenty of time to her fans, which is perhaps why she was able to keep her cool during a troubling interaction with one of them last night (Aug. 21) at the 92nd Street Y in New York City.
The incident took place while she was in conversation with actress and singer Reneé Rapp, who recently left The Sex Lives of College Girls and is promoting her new music. The two were seated onstage when a man began to approach them, calling out Barrymore’s name. Barrymore, whose default setting is warm and approachable, at first seemed to welcome him, calling out, “Oh my God, yes, hi!” but the tone shifted immediately when Rapp and two security guards sprang up when they realized the man was not supposed to be there.
Per footage of the incident posted to social media, he was allegedly saying to Barrymore, “You know who I am. I need to see you at some point while you’re in New York,” before the guards guards escorted the man out of the auditorium.
Rapp, meanwhile, wrapped her arm around Barrymore and walked her offstage, where they remained for a short time before returning. Outlets have reported that the man’s identity is Chad Michael Busto, but Decider has not been able to verify this detail.
After their brief delay, Rapp and Barrymore returned to the stage, where Rapp praised Barrymore for wanting to immediately resume the show.

“They were like, ‘Hey, do you need anything? Just a sec?’ She was like ‘Oh no, I’ve got it, I’m good,'” Rapp told the audience, while Barrymore shouted out Rapp’s protective instinct.
“I have a new definition of your sexiness,” she told Rapp. “It’s that level of protectiveness. That went full Bodyguard. You are my Kevin Costner!”
Decider has reached out to the 92nd Street Y for more information about the incident, but did not hear back by time of publication.
