Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. has been canceled by Disney+ after two seasons.
Multiple sources have confirmed the news, which comes just five months after the show’s 10-episode second season debuted, to Deadline.
The series, which starred Peyton Elizabeth Lee, was billed as a female reboot of Neil Patrick Harris’ Doogie Howser, M.D. (1989–1993). Lee played 16-year-old teen doctor Lahela “Doogie” Kamealoha, who got her nickname from “that show from the ’90s” according to one of her peers in the series premiere.
In addition to Lee, the series starred Emma Meisel as Lahela’s bff Steph, Matt Sato and Wes Tian as Lahela’s brothers Kai and Brian Patrick, Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman and Mapuana Makia as Lahela’s coworkers Charles and Noelani, Kathleen Rose Perkins as Lahela’s mother (and boss) Dr. Hannon, and Jason Scott Lee as Lahela’s father Benny.
For the romantic storyline, Alex Aiono and Milo Manheim recurred as Lahela’s love interests Walter and Nico.
There were a number of noteworthy guest stars that appeared on the show throughout its two seasons, including Barry Bostwick, Randall Park, Daniel Dae Kim, Alyson Hannigan, Magic Johnson, Margaret Cho and Max Greenfield.
Created and executive produced by Kourtney Kang, Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. is one of many shows that have bitten the dust since the writers and actors strikes begun.
