Star Wars: Ahsoka Episode 3 Time to Fly”on Disney+ ” introduces Star Wars fans to the live action version of a character we’ve only briefly gotten a glimpse of in animation: Jacen Syndulla (Evan Whitten).

**Spoilers for Star Wars: Ahsoka Episode 3 “Time to Fly,” now streaming on Disney+**

We knew from Star Wars Rebels that although Kanan Jarus (voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr.) had died saving his friends, he and his one true love General Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) had a child named Jacen. A flash forward in the Star Wars Rebels finale revealed the half-human, half-Twi’lek boy to look mostly human, although with rather large ears and naturally green hair.

Now we finally have a live action version of the (potentially Force-sensitive) character. After Hera fails to convince Chancellor Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) and other senators to aid Ahsoka’s (Rosario Dawson) quest to track down Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), she’s reunited in the hallway with her son. While we don’t get a good look at those ears, Jacen Syndulla definitely has the green hair he inherited from his green-skinned mom. He also straight up says he wants to be a Jedi when he grows up, which causes Hera some grief, if not anguish. After all, Kanan Jarrus had been a Jedi padawan who narrowly escaped the purge.

But who exactly is Jacen Syndulla? Who plays the Star Wars character? And is his name a nod to a Star Wars character from the original Expanded Universe run of novels (now known as Legends)? Here’s what you need to know about Jacen Syndulla…

Who is Jacen Syndulla? Meet Hera Syndulla and Kanan Jarrus’s Son on Star Wars: Ahsoka

Jacen Syndulla is the only child of former Jedi-turned-Rebel Kanan Jarrus and illustrious war hero General Hera Syndulla. As mentioned, he might look mostly human, but he is half Twi’lek, which comes through in his green hair. It’s yet unclear if he inherited his father’s talent with the Force, but his eagerness over the news about Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) resuming her Jedi training suggests he might be.

Jacen Syndulla is played by Evan Whitten, a child actor best known for his work on Netflix’s Chupa. You can follow Whitten on Instagram @evan.whitten.

If you’re the kind of person who gets chills every time Grand Admiral Thrawn is mentioned because you remember the original Timothy Zahn books or even the rush of reading the New Jedi Order novels, the name Jacen might get your hackles up a bit. Long before Disney bought Lucasfilm and made the sequel trilogy with Adam Driver playing Han and Leia’s troubled son Ben, aka Kylo Ren, there was Jacen Solo. The eldest son of Han and Leia in the now not canon books, he would eventually turn to the Dark Side.

However, Jacen Solo and Jacen Syndulla are very different characters. We highly doubt he has a twin sister or a Dathomirian love interest or a destiny cloaked in darkness. He’s just a nice kid, okay? (OR IS HE?) (No, he is.)
