Mitchel Musso is telling his side of the story and chipping away at his charges of stealing a bag of chips and public intoxication.

After getting arrested on Saturday night (Aug. 26) for public intoxication and reportedly stealing a bag of chips, the Hannah Montana star told Entertainment Weekly that he “was absolutely not drunk or drinking, and there was 100% no theft,” deeming the situation as “unfortunate” and a “misunderstanding.”

According to a press release from the police department in Rockwall, Texas where he was arrested, the cops were called on Musso for reportedly causing a “disturbance” at the SpringHill Suites Dallas hotel. In the release, Musso is described “an individual who appeared intoxicated entered the hotel, selected a bag of chips and began eating them.”

Upon being asked to pay for them, Musso allegedly “became verbally abusive and left without rendering payment.” He was “ultimately arrested for Public Intoxication and Theft < $100 (both of which are Class C Misdemeanors)” and spent Saturday night in jail before being bailed out on a $1,000 bond.

The former Disney Channel actor claims he never opened the bag of chips, describing the hotel employee who allegedly denied him the bag of chips because he was shirtless as “extremely disgruntled.”

“I didn’t know it was illegal not to wear shirts these days,” he said, adding that the employee “told [him] to ‘get the fuck out” which “kind of set [him] off.”

In response to being described as “verbally abusive” in the press release, Musso believes he “was the one who was being verbally abused and also harassed,” explaining that “someone ripping something out of your hand is not the most polite manners to have in this situation.”

As noted in the press release, he had “several outstanding traffic warrants out of Rockwall Police Department,” which he asserts were “ultimately the reason why they arrested [him].”

“I haven’t lived in Rockwall for years and I guess they’d been sending it to my old house there,” he clarified. “And it had become a warrant and they used it against me. So since then, all of those warrants have been paid and the matter has been resolved.”

Musso also highlighted that the chips he reportedly stole were “of the potato chip variety,” eventually coming to the conclusion that he’s outlet “pretty sure it was Ruffles.”

“One of my favorites,” he gushed. “I like the waves in them. They hold dip well.”

In regard to his upcoming projects, Musso revealed he is working on a new album that “sounds bigger than life” including “artists that everybody knows,” in addition to an “incredible” new film, which will mark his first full-length movie since voicing Jeremy in the 2020 animated Disney film Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe, per IMDb.
