Whoopi Goldberg‘s summer break is going a little longer than planned. The co-host was missing from this morning’s episode of The View as the panel reunited for Season 27. Goldberg, who has been a mainstay on the daytime talk show since 2007, was absent today because she contracted COVID-19, yet again.

When Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin filed out onto the fresh new View set, Goldberg was nowhere to be found. Thankfully, Behar quickly cleared the air about her absence.

“As you can see, Whoopi is not here. She has Covid,” she shared, as the audience collectively sighed. “Yes! It’s back, it’s back.”

Behar then shared some positive details about Goldberg’s health, suggesting the co-host could be back on the show as soon as later this week.

“But she’s on the mend. She’s on the tail end and she’ll probably be back this week,” Behar told viewers, before adding, “But sorry she’s not here, for those of you who were looking forward to seeing her.”

Goldberg has contracted COVID-19 multiple times and subsequently missed The View twice in 2022; she first tested positive for the virus in January of that year and later again in November.

When she first missed The View in January 2022, Goldberg chatted with her co-hosts over livestream, telling them she was “shocked” by her positive test result.

“It was a shock, because I’m triple vaxxed, I haven’t been anywhere, I haven’t done anything,” she said at the time. “It’s one of those things where you think, I’ve done everything I was supposed to do… Yeah, it doesn’t stop omicron.

“I don’t know how much more proof people need to see that the vaccination — while it does not necessarily stop it from happening again — it is not happening at the same rate that it was,” she added, before telling her co-hosts, “I don’t know anybody that doesn’t know somebody who’s got it or has just gotten over it. That is not a good sign.”

COVID-19 case counts are ticking up once again, with hospitalizations jumping 31% in the last two weeks, per Axios. Goldberg isn’t the only famous culprit of the latest surge. First Lady Dr. Jill Biden tested positive for COVID-19, but is experiencing “mild symptoms.”

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
