Bob Barker‘s cause of death has been revealed as Alzheimer’s disease, according to his death certificate.
The famed game show host died Aug. 26 at the age of 99 after enduring a private battle with Alzheimer’s. According to his death certificate, which was obtained by TMZ, he had been living with the disease for “years,” though he did not publicly discuss his diagnosis.
The document also indicated that there were “other significant conditions” that contributed to his death, according to People. The death certificate listed high blood pressure, high cholesterol and hypothyroidism as contributing factors.
Barker’s publicist announced he died at his home in Los Angeles late last month.
Comedian Drew Carey, who took over hosting The Price Is Right after Barker retired in 2007, paid homage to his predecessor in a CBS tribute to the longtime game show host.
“Today, we celebrate Bob’s legacy with a look back at some of the incredible moments of his time here on The Price Is Right,” Carey said as he grew emotional on the Aug. 31 special. “This is for you, Bob.”
Carey went on to say The Price is Right could credit its “multigenerational legacy” to Barker, who helped make it “a part of the American fabric.”
He concluded, “A bond that lasts to this very day… On behalf of all people and animals everywhere, thank you Bob Barker.”
The tribute also highlighted Barker’s lifelong love for animals and his advocacy work in animal rights, which sparked his iconic sign-off, “Help control the pet population, have your pets spayed or neutered.”
Barker famously teamed up with PETA over the years and promoted vegetarianism, saying it helped prevent Alzheimer’s. His longtime girlfriend and caretaker, Nancy Burnet, said in a statement after his death that she was “so proud” of his work as an animal activist.
“I am so proud of the trailblazing work Barker and I did together to expose the cruelty to animals in the entertainment industry and including working to improve the plight of abused and exploited animals in the United States and internationally,” Burnet said, per the Associated Press.
According to TMZ, Barker’s estate was divided up and donated to dozens of animal rights and nonprofit organizations.
