2004 Conan O’Brien Interview With Danny Masterson Resurfaces After ‘That 70’s Show’ Star Sentenced to Prison for Rape: “You’ll Be Caught Soon”

An interview from 2004 between Conan O’Brien and Danny Masterson has resurfaced online after the latter was sentenced to prison after being found guilty on two counts of rape.

The clip, which shows the pair bantering and making racy jokes, took on a darker connotation after news of Masterson’s prison sentencing broke on Thursday (Sept. 7).

“I’ve heard about you, and you’ll be caught soon,” Conan said. “I know you will.”

Masterson replied, “I will.”

The two had been discussing why Masterson, who is a Long Island native, no longer had a New York accent. The actor joked that his friend, Bodhi Elfman – who HuffPost notes is also a member of the Church of Scientology, like Masterson – regularly joked about how he says certain words.

“It goes away naturally and there’s also certain words that there’s nothing you can do about,” Masterson told O’Brien. “Like my friend, Bodhi Elfman, he always cheeses me, and he says, ‘Hi, my name’s Danny Masterson. Would you like to touch my balls?'”

“So why are you asking people to do that? That’s the more important thing,” O’Brien responded, eliciting laughs from the audience.

After the laughter died down, O’Brien remarked that he knew Masterson would be “caught soon.”

Masterson was charged with raping three women between the years of 2001 and 2003 before he was sentenced yesterday.

According to KTLA, the three Jane Does were also all members of the Church of Scientology at the time the assaults occurred. They said the church made them reluctant to file a report with the police after they notified the church. Scientology officials reportedly told them they had not been raped when they shared that they had been assaulted.

Masterson was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison this week after he was convicted earlier this year of raping two of the women. The two Jane Does spoke at his sentencing on Thursday. One of them said he “has not shown an ounce of remorse for the pain he caused.”

“I knew he belonged behind bars for the safety of all the women he came into contact with,” she said. “I am so sorry, and I’m so upset. I wish I’d reported him sooner to the police.”
