Good Morning America‘s Robin Roberts married Amber Laign, her partner of 18 years, on Friday (Sept. 8).

Fans received news of their wedding on Friday via the couple’s dog Lukas’ Instagram, which shared a post of the pup in a bowtie captioned, “My mommies are MARRIED!!!! Married?……yes….married!!!”

The longtime morning news anchor has been in a relationship with Laign since 2005, per Entertainment Weekly, and the two sealed the deal years later in an “intimate, magical wedding ceremony” in their backyard. According to Roberts’ Instagram post that she shared Sunday, their ceremony was “followed by a joyous reception.”

“Ohhhh the dancing!!” Roberts continued. “We are immensely grateful to all for making it a day and a night to remember. Honeymoon here we come!”

Various stars have shared their well wishes with the newlyweds in the comments, including Roberts’ fellow ABC employees. ABC World News Tonight anchor David Muir wrote, “Beautiful and moving. I hope you could feel the love in that room ❤️,” while GMA3: What You Need To Know co-anchor Eva Pilgrim wrote, “So much love!!! So much joy!!! Cheers to you both and a beautiful life together. 💚💚💚.”

Former The View co-host and current Sherri host Sherri Shepherd commented, “love to you both,” and ABC News correspondent and anchor Deborah Roberts penned, “Hope you’re still floating on those love clouds! 🥂.”

In August, Roberts’ GMA co-anchor George Stephanopoulos and his wife and actress Ali Wentworth shared a video to congratulate the couple on the show, in which they told the two that they were “about to embark on such an incredibly beautiful journey.”

According to CNN, Roberts confirmed in January that she was”saying yes to marriage” with Laign on a GMA segment with author and motivational speaker Gabby Bernstein.

“It was something we had talked about but we had put it off,” she said at the time. “She became ill,” referring to Laign’s battle with breast cancer. Roberts also tackled breast cancer in 2007, and the two opened up to GMA about being both patients and caregivers to each other.

Laign said, “Unfortunate that we had to go through it, but that we’ve both supported each other on both sides of those roles.”

The couple revealed that their proposal took place at the end of 2022 over calamari.

“We took the calamari rings and we slapped them on each other’s fingers and we just we proposed to one another,” Roberts shared. “Now looking back, it was pretty fitting for us to not have a down on one knee [proposal] and one person doing it and who was going to propose. It was just us hanging out in our little hole-in-the-wall Mexican spot and putting calamari rings on each other and saying, ‘Let’s go. Let’s do it.'”

She noted that “many people go into marriage hoping for and looking for what Amber and [her] already know [they] have,” which made their wedding a call for a “celebration.”

“We’ve been living our happily ever after through all the ups and downs, so it’s a celebration.”
