It sure has been a doozy for fans of New York football — and Mark Consuelos knows it. On this morning’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, the co-host recapped everything diehard Giants and Jets fans wish they could forget from the last few days.

Before Consuelos got into the bad news, he praised tennis players Novak Djokovic and Coco Gauff for their big wins at the U.S. Open last weekend.

“I was watching the match. I loved [Gauff’s] grit. She lost the first set but she came back. The interview she gave was so amazing and humble and confident,” he said, referring to the way she thanked people who didn’t believe in her. “She didn’t say it in a nasty way. She said in a very matter-of-fact way. I loved that … It’s always good to be the underdog.”

After congratulating the two athletes, Consuelos pivoted the conversation to the NFL, where he gave a dramatic retelling of everything that happened during Sunday night’s (Sept. 10) Giants game and Monday night’s (Sept. 11) Jets game to Kelly Ripa, who oftentimes jokes about her lack of professional sports knowledge.

“New York football had a horrible weekend,” he said to a laughing New York-based audience. “Was it 40 to nothing the Giants lost to the Dallas Cowboys? In the rain. It was just — it was really, really bad.”

He continued, “And then it got worse last night. The Jets made an offseason acquisition — Aaron Rodgers, who had been with the Green Bay Packers for centuries, OK? He comes over to help the Jets. Superstar. He’s 39, so it’s a risky thing. On his fourth snap, just a few minutes into the game, he goes down. And they fear it’s an Achilles injury.”

While Consuelos said Achilles injuries on “old guys” like he and executive producer Michael Gelman are “not really good news,” Ripa playfully reminded him that they are “almost twice” Rodgers’ age.

Fortunately, this tale had a happy ending — at least, for some.

“The kid that they drafted a couple of years ago [Zach Wilson] had to step back in and they won the game,” Consuelos added. “I think it’s setting up for quite a season for the Jets. Our best wishes to Aaron Rodgers and his Achilles.”
