A new trailer is drumming up more anticipation ahead of the release of Martin Scorsese‘s upcoming western epic, Killers of the Flower Moon.
Based on the 2017 nonfiction book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by author and journalist David Grann, Scorsese’s film depicts the unbelievably true story of the Osage Nation and the violence enacted upon them in 1920s Oklahoma.
Starring Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, and Brendan Fraser, this star-studded feature is clocking in at a hefty three-and-a-half hours. But after watching this new trailer, it looks like every second will be worth it.
Killers of the Flower Moon earned rave reviews when it premiered earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival, boding well for how Scorsese and De Niro fans will feel when it hits theaters later this year.

What is Killers of the Flower Moon about?
The film takes a different approach than the story covered in Grann’s book. While Grann focused on agent Tom White (who is played by Plemons in the film) and the birth of the FBI, Scorsese instead chose to focus on Ernest Burkhart (DiCaprio) and his wife, Osage Nation member Mollie Kyle (Gladstone).
The film takes place in the 1920s, when the Osage Nation become the “wealthiest, most beautiful people on God’s earth” after oil is discovered on their land, according to the new trailer. But their newfound fortune attracts new enemies who will do anything they can to take what they want. When the Osage Nation is plagued by a string of murders, Burkhart and his wife find themselves right in the middle of the investigation.
It actually took several drafts for Scorsese and his co-writer Eric Roth to achieve their final draft. “After a certain point, I realized I was making a movie about all the white guys,” he recently admitted. “Meaning I was taking the approach from the outside in, which concerned me.”
What is the Killers of the Flower Moon release date?
Killers of the Flower Moon is set to premiere in theaters on Oct. 20, after which it will stream on Apple TV+.
But if it goes the Oppenheimer way, it could be in theaters for an extended run.
