Mike Richards Opens Up About Being Booted From Hosting ‘Jeopardy!’: “A Lot Of People Got Joy In Saying, ‘I Got You'”
Jeopardy! fans have proven once again that nothing can get past them.
According to TVLine, the show’s official Instagram page shared a clip from Thursday’s (Sept. 21) episode featuring a clue about RuPaul’s Drag Race that read as follows: “At the end of an episode of Drag Race, RuPaul tells one contestant, ‘Shantay, you stay’ & the other, do this ‘away.'”
The correct answer was “Sashay.” However, the clue pulled up on the screen for viewers to read at home had nothing to do with RuPaul nor her fellow drag queens.
Instead, the following clue popped up on dedicated followers’ screens: “Angela Lansbury used her witching powers to thwart Nazis in this classic that won an Oscar for special effects in 1971,” to which the correct answer would have been “what is Bedknobs and Broomsticks?,” per TVInsider.
In the spirit of Season 40’s Second Chance Tournament, it seems as though the show’s social media team was also afforded a second chance to fix their faux pas.
While the peculiar post was only shared on social media and didn’t occur during Thursday night’s broadcast, the slip-up was rectified after the correct clip was posted to the show’s Facebook page.

A Jeopardy! spokesperson told TVLine that “the clue was posted inadvertently by our social media team.”
“The correct version was posted to Facebook, and the incorrect Instagram version was pulled down immediately,” they continued. “We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.”
Jeopardy! airs weeknights at 7/6c. Check out the website for local listings.
