Loki executive producer Kevin Wright confirmed Jonathan Majors will still appear in Season 2 despite his arrest in March following an alleged domestic dispute.

According to Wright’s recent interview with Variety, filming for Season 2 ended in 2022, well before Majors was arrested earlier this year, and no changes have been made since.

“This is the first Marvel series to never have any additional photography. The story that is on screen is the story we set out to make,” Wright said.

The executive producer also denied that Disney or Marvel discussed making any changes to the show in light of Majors’ arrest.

“I know as much as you do at the moment,” he replied. “It felt hasty to do anything without knowing how all of this plays out.”

According to Wright, they wanted to stay in the world of TVA established in Loki Season 1, which saw Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) finally meet He Who Remains, a variant of Majors’ Kang The Conqueror, whom we met in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. But the finale establishes Majors as a central part of Season 2, and cements his future as Marvel’s big bad even further.

“I think we had to just keep reminding ourselves that the TVA is a great world, let’s live in the drama of what we’re creating there,” Wright said. “Which means not fast-forwarding through the drama that they just decided to stop pruning timelines, but also staying in the emotional turmoil that Loki and Sylvie are coming into this season with.”

As Decider’s Brett White notes regarding the actor’s future in the franchise, “Removing Kang completely would derail Loki’s story… he is an integral part of Loki’s narrative and is likely all over Season 2. Editing Majors out of Loki may just be impossible.” But, he writes, “It is, however, in Marvel’s best interest to do something.”

Majors was arrested in March for allegedly assaulting his then-girlfriend. He has since been charged with misdemeanor assault, attempted assault, and aggravated harassment. The victim, who has since been identified as Grace Jabbari, was granted a temporary order of protection from Majors. His attorney later claimed Jabbari assaulted Majors during the incident.

A later report also shared the perspective of over 40 sources who have known the actor through college and his career, detailing multiple instances of abuse in his personal relationships, and misconduct on set.

The actor’s trial is scheduled to begin later this month.

Loki Season 2 premieres on Disney+ on Oct. 6, 2023.
