Fear not, Yellowstone fans. The future of the hit Western drama may be up in the air, but Kevin Costner will be back soon enough with a passion project of his own.
Warner Bros. released a teaser and announced the premiere dates for Costner’s upcoming feature film, Horizon: An American Saga, which will be split into two parts. Yes, you read that correctly. Horizon: An American Saga Part 1 is scheduled to hit theaters June 28, 2024, and Part 2 will premiere two months later on Aug. 16, 2024.
The teaser shows just two establishing shots from the films: a wide shot of a desert valley, and a scene of Costner firing three shots at something off-screen from his horse.
Though the sneak peek doesn’t reveal much about the film, the trailer also teases a seriously stacked cast. Horizon: An American Saga stars Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Luke Wilson, Jena Malone, Isabelle Fuhrman, to name a few.
Costner both co-wrote and directed Horizon.
Previous reports stated filming for Costner’s passion project coincided with production for Yellowstone, which allegedly “frustrated producers.” But Costner later revealed during his divorce proceedings that he “changed” his schedule so he could film the first part of Yellowstone Season 5, but when it came time to film the second part, he claimed the scripts had not even been written yet, per People.
He also added that he will “probably go to court over” his wages for the rest of Season 5.
“Kevin’s been unfairly portrayed in this thing,” a source claimed to The Hollywood Reporter this summer as conflicting reports arose about the actor. “How can you schedule something when there are no scripts? [Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan‘s] doing eight other shows.”
Despite reports of tense negotiations behind the scenes, Sheridan wished Costner well for Horizon: An American Saga.
“His movie seems to be a great priority to him and he wants to shift focus. I sure hope [the movie is] worth it — and that it’s a good one,” Sheridan told THR in June.
