It’s spooky season on Live with Kelly and Mark, and as Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos teased filming their upcoming Halloween special, the co-host couple delved into the horrors of past Halloweens spent together — specifically, Consuelos “flat out” refusing to dress up with Ripa.

After “years and years” of effort, Consuelos ultimately relented to Ripa’s request and he dressed up as Nicole Richie alongside her Paris Hilton at a Live Halloween party.

“And do you know what that entailed?” Ripa asked. “Mark putting on his Nicole Richie costume over his clothes, putting a wig on his head, and not shaving or putting on any make-up.”

“Full scruff,” Consuelos affirmed.

“So he really just refused to participate,” Ripa added, comparing Consuelos’ costume to a child who is forced to put a coat on over their Halloween costume and “nobody knows what you are.”

Ripa’s hubby justified his lack of effort by quipping that “every year, [he] go[es] as Mark Consuelos.”

However, one Halloween would change that for good.

Ripa recalled how after that one “year of relenting,” he continually refused, until one Halloween when Consuelos was “stuck out in L.A. working on a show.”

“And as I’m scrolling on social media, imagine my surprise when my friend, Bruce Bozzi, posts a picture of him and Mark as the cops from CHiPS in a joint costume!” Ripa exclaimed. “Mark’s dressed like Erik Estrada from CHiPS!”

“That was a mistake,” Consuelos admitted, noting that he “didn’t think that one through” and that he “actually got excited” about it.

“And now I’m like irritated,” Ripa continued. “And so I call him at the party and he doesn’t answer, and that irritates me more.”

So Ripa called up Bozzi and directed him to put Consuelos on the phone, and ultimately told her husband, “just so you know, this means war.”

“You will, for now, until the day we die, because marital vows, you will put on a Halloween costume until death do us part,” she said.

Consuelos claimed he’s “more into” dressing up for Halloween now, but fans will just have to be the judge of that on the upcoming Halloween episode.
