Bruce Willis is just as pleased as his fans that his breakthrough series Moonlighting has made its debut on streaming.

Series creator Glenn Gordon Caron told The New York Post that he has maintained his relationship with Willis since their work together on the ’80s dramedy, and that he was able to give him the news of the show being released on Hulu on Tuesday (Oct. 10).

“I know he’s really happy that the show is going to be available for people, even though he can’t tell me that,” Caron shared with the outlet.  “When I got to spend time with him we talked about it and I know he’s excited.”

Willis was diagnosed with language aphasia in 2022 and then frontotemporal dementia earlier this year, per NBC Connecticut.

Caron explained that the “process” of bringing the show to Hulu “has taken quite a while,” but that despite Willis’ disease being “progressive,” Caron “was able to communicate with him, before the disease rendered him as incommunicative as he is now, about hoping to get the show back in front of people.”

“I know it means a lot to him,” he told the Post.

While Caron admitted that he’s “not always quite that good” about keeping up with Willis, he said that he does “talk to him and his wife Emma Heming Willis” and has “a casual relationship with his three older children.”

“I have tried very hard to stay in his life,” he continued. “He’s an extraordinary person. The thing that makes [his disease] so mind-blowing is [that] if you’ve ever spent time with Bruce Willis, there is no one who had any more joie de vivre than he. He loved life and … just adored waking up every morning and trying to live life to its fullest.”

Caron told the Post that Willis is “not totally verbal,” adding, “He used to be a voracious reader — he didn’t want anyone to know that — and he’s not reading now. All those language skills are no longer available to him, and yet he’s still Bruce.”

Moonlighting follows Willis’ David Addison and Cybill Shepherd‘s Maddie Hayes as they work together to solve cases at the Blue Moon Detective Agency. The show debuted on ABC on March 3, 1985, and ran for five seasons until 1989.

Willis’ wife was thrilled about the “happy news” of her husband’s show reaching new fans through streaming, and took to Instagram on Tuesday to spread the word.

“You bet our family will be watching tomorrow @hulu,” she captioned the post. “David Addison and Maddie Hayes forever 🫶🏽.”

Moonlighting is now streaming on Hulu.
