We’ll cut to the chase — Rick and Morty is returning, but without its co-creator Justin Roiland, who previously voiced the titular characters.

Ahead of the Season 7 premiere, Adult Swim has been teasing the new voices, even writing in a press release, “Rick and Morty are back and sounding more like themselves than ever!”

And the network was proven to be right, as when the trailer dropped, fans were blown away by the soundalike voices that replaced Roiland in the show.

Now, with Dan Harmon as the sole showrunner and Roiland having been ousted from Adult Swim, Hulu, Warner Bros. Discovery, 20th TV Animation, and Squanch Games in light of his past domestic violence charges, will the hit animated show be the same?

Our early review of Season 7 paints a promising picture. Not only was the transition seamless, but the show is better than ever before.

We wrote that the first two episodes are “rewatchable, laugh-out-loud additions to the animated series and keep up with its ambitious and uncensored nature,” noting that the second episode has “major cult classic potential.”

For devout followers of Rick and Morty, the time has finally come to reveal the new actor — or actors — behind the beloved characters. Wondering who is voicing Rick and Morty in the latest season? Continue reading for everything you need to know.

Who Replaced Justin Roiland in Rick and Morty Season 7?

Is it artificial intelligence? Is it Eric Bauza? Is it a random man at a bar? Is it Justin Roiland from an alternate universe? Well, the answer is none of the above. The premiere episode of the season featured two new names in the opening credits: Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden.

Cardoni, last seen as a narrator for Wrestlemania 37, voices Rick, while Belden — who starred in an episode of Chicago MD — is the new voice behind Morty. Both of the actors are fresh to the animation scene!

Showrunner Scott Marder spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the casting process, saying, “They both came through rigorous casting calls. Ian was early on and Harry came after we exhausted every resource. We had multiple waves of narrowing people down.”

Marder later said that Cardoni and Belden “just brought this show 30 more years.” He added, “We just got these eager, young guys who are so excited to attack every episode.”

In the same interview, it was revealed that a third actor, John Allen, joined the cast to voice Mr. Poopybutthole in the episode, as the character was also originally portrayed by Roiland. “He took pressure off of Ian and Harry who were both working on Poopy but it felt like too much for either of them to be doing him in an episode of the show that they had to completely re-do,” said Marder.

Wow, did you guess that correctly? I know I didn’t! Well, now that the big news has finally been revealed, we can sit back and enjoy the rest of the new season. A Mr. Poopybutthole episode to kick the season off? Don’t mind if I do.

Rick and Morty Season 7 airs Sundays at 11pm ET on Adult Swim.
