When news broke last week that the new sports doc Kelce had quickly become the most-watched original documentary in Prime Video history, jokes flew that Taylor Swift‘s impassioned fans must have tuned in not realizing that the film focused on Philadelphia Eagles team captain Jason Kelce and not his brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end (and Taylor Swift’s new beau) Travis Kelce. And, yes, Kelce is 100% about Jason Kelce and his love of Philadelphia, wife Kylie, and football. However the documentary also examines the unique relationship dynamics of the Kelce family itself and, in doing so, might actually give Swifties hope that Taylor and Travis are end game. Throughout Kelce, it’s clear that Travis Kelce is the rare professional athlete who isn’t just chasing glory for himself, but dreams of sharing the spotlight with someone he loves. In fact, there’s one moment where Travis Kelce literally spells out that his biggest dream is to be part of a power couple taking on the world…which is exactly how his courtship with Taylor Swift is playing out.

Directed by Don Argott, Kelce is a feature length documentary that follows Philadelphia Eagles team captain and All-Pro center Jason Kelce during the 2022-23 NFL season. When the film starts, Kelce is contemplating retirement at the end of the season. He’s 35 years old, hindered by injuries, and hoping to spend more quality time with his wife and young daughters. By the end of the season, though, Kelce is playing against his own younger brother in the Super Bowl.

What’s remarkable about Jason and Travis Kelce’s relationship is that they don’t have the usual toxic sibling rivalry that you’d expect from two brothers excelling in the same field. In fact, about thirty minutes into Kelce, Travis Kelce reveals that his dream was always to play elite football on the same team as his brother.

“I always wanted to feel that power tandem of, you know, me and my brother out there together fighting against the world. Like that was always something that I wanted to, to feel,” he said.

According to Kelce, the brothers only really got this chance to play together briefly in college. Patriarch Ed Kelce shares that the photo of Travis making his first touchdown with Jason side-by-side his brother, clearing the way, is a treasured heirloom.

“The excitement of sharing the field with my brother,” Travis Kelce goes on to say. “Man, that was one of the coolest moments.”

So what does this have to do with Taylor Swift? Well, for Swifties, sort of everything. Taylor Swift is a global superstar who owes her success not only to her profound songwriting, but her strategic PR moves. Her reinventions, her Easter eggs, her penchant for intertwining the personal and the public… That’s her game and Travis Kelce is the first suitor she’s had who seems eager and willing to play beside her.

It’s not just that for once, Taylor Swift has a boyfriend who doesn’t seem to wither under the heat of intense press scrutiny; it’s that Travis Kelce has already shown he wants to engage in Taylor’s self-made mythology. Whether we’re talking about the fact that he very publicly wooed her by putting his phone number on a friendship bracelet at the Eras tour or that the man has been stepping out in 1989 (Taylor’s Version)-coded outfits lately, Travis Kelce is not shying away from being a true partner-in-crime for Taylor Swift.
