Where To Watch ‘Once Upon A Studio’ Full Short To Celebrate Disney 100

A new Disney animated short 100 years in the making is now streaming after debuting last night on ABC.

Once Upon a Studio, which runs just nine minutes long, imagines what might happen after a day of work at Walt Disney Animation Studios as characters from the illustrations on the walls come to life.

The short features over 500 animated characters from the 100 year history of the studio (in their original animation styles!), and new vocals from over 40 voice actors who return to their roles, including a new look at Ariana DeBose’s Asha, who will lead Disney’s centennial feature Wish.

Archival recordings were also used on a number of characters whose voice actors have passed since the making of their respective films, including Robin Williams’ Genie from Aladdin. Williams’ estate approved of the use of these outtakes to create new vocals, which were generated entirely without the use of AI.

Prolific Disney imagineer Burny Mattinson also appears in Once Upon A Studio, which was filmed before his death in February 2023. Mattinson’s career with Disney spanned more than seven decades, beginning with uncredited “inbetweener” work on 1955’s Lady and the Tramp and ending nearly 40 films later as a story artist on Strange World (2022).

Once Upon A Studio is streaming on two different services: Disney+ and Hulu, so you can watch it with a subscription to either.
