There’s a lot to get excited about in The Morning Show Season 3 Episode 7 “Strict Scrutiny.” The all-new episode of the Apple TV+ hit opens with another steamy Jennifer Aniston/Jon Hamm sex scene, introduces the great Lindsay Duncan as Cory Ellison’s (Billy Crudup) influential mom, and continues to center the most devastating news stories of the last few years as bonkers developments in the background. (This week’s tragic event used as gristle for the soapy drama? The overturning of Roe v. Wade.) However, something else in The Morning Show Season 3 Episode 7 “Strict Scrutiny” caught the attention of my royal gossip-reading magpie eye. Mia Jordan (Karen Pittman) got to attend a gala in a gold cocktail dress that Meghan Markle wore in New York City in May 2023. The glittering Johanna Ortiz design has since sold out, but it’s nice to know that TMS‘s most dedicated producer got to don a dress fit for a Duchess in the middle of yet another one of The Morning Show‘s chaotic installments…
The Morning Show might be known as the Apple TV+ show starring Jennifer Aniston and Reece Witherspoon, but long-time fans know that the real stealth star of the show is Mia Jordan, who often serves as TMS‘s moral center and professional guardian angel. Mia gets a fun storyline in The Morning Show Season 3, where she’s hung up on a hot war correspondent she had an ill-fated romance with during COVID. However, where she really shines is in bringing the other characters down to earth and expressing deep rooted rage with eloquence and grace. So it was a delight to watch her buddy up with Stella (Greta Lee) over the course of the season and even more delightful to see she got to wear a dress made famous this spring by Meghan Markle to a fancy gala in the Big Apple.
Ironically, Meghan Markle also opted for the gilt Johanna Ortiz dress for a swanky New York City gala in the spring. (Note: she customized the design by removing the straps; Mia keeps her straps on.)
Markle was an honoree at the Ms. Foundation’s Women of Vision Awards and both husband Prince Harry and mother Doria Ragland were in attendance. In yet another funny parallel with The Morning Show, Markle’s night out on the town was not without chaos, scandal or drama. Later that evening, she, Prince Harry, and Ragland were “shaken” by finding themselves in a “near catastrophic” car chase with paparazzi. Mia Jordan just had to deal with the news that she could soon find herself as head of the news division if Paul Marks (Jon Hamm) got his way and managed a coup against UBA leader Cory Ellison.
Now both women — Karen Pittman and Meghan Markle — look gorgeous in the gold dress, but it begs the question: who wore it better? And which version would you prefer? (I kind of lean towards the original one with straps, but then that’s because I’m always terrified a strapless dress with slip down!)
