Is Bad Romance: The Vicky White Story based on a true story?

Yes it is — and it’s a very recent story, too. Vicky White was a 17-year veteran of the detention center where Casey White (no relation, BTW) was serving a 75-year sentence for a previous crime spree. Assault, attempted murder, robbery — Casey did it all. And while he was in prison, he even confessed to a 2015 stabbing death of a 59-year-old man. Vicky, it’s believed, began a romantic relationship with Casey, possibly as early as 2020. Just to make matters even more bizarre, Vicky was a star employee and was set to win “employee of the year” for the fifth time — until she decided to bust Casey out of prison.

Vicky was actually set to retire on April 29, 2022, but she chose to “escort” Casey to the “courthouse” for a “mental health evaluation.” In reality, she and Casey hit the highway and traveled north from Lauderdale County Jail in Florence, Alabama. Needless to say, Vicky was terminated instead of retiring and her “employee of the year” title was rescinded.

Police eventually found Vicky and Casey at a car wash in Evansville, Indiana and confronted them after a highway car chase. Casey got out of the car and surrendered, and police found Vicky in the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was later pronounced dead and her death was ruled a suicide.
