HBO‘s The Gilded Age Season 2 will be returning to our screens soon — but not quite yet. The second season of Julian Fellowes‘s decadent, American-based followup to Downton Abbey will premiere on HBO and Max before the end of the month. It won’t be long before we’re reunited with fabulous old money snob Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski), sexy robber baron George Russell (Morgan Spector), and his indefatigably ambitious wife Bertha (Carrie Coon). The Gilded Age Season 2 will be set in 1884, which means we’ll get to see everything from the legendary “Opera Wars,” that built the original Metropolitan Opera House, to the grand opening of the Brooklyn Bridge. The only question is when does The Gilded Age Season 2 start? When is this decadent jewel in HBO’s programming slate premiere in 2023?

The Gilded Age is Oscar and Emmy-winning writer Julian Fellowes take on one of the most decadent eras in American history. In The Gilded Age Season 1, we followed fast friends Marion Brook (Louisa Jacobson) and Peggy Scott (Denée Benton) as they entered the world of high New York City society via very different entrances. The first season of The Gilded Age ended with Marion having her heart broken by a rake literally named Mr. Raikes (Thomas Cocquerel) and Peggy putting her journalism career on hold to mourn the loss of the baby she was forced by her well-to-do Brooklyn parents to put up for adoption. Elsewhere, Marion’s snooty Aunt Agnes had to accept — along with the rest of society — the upstart Mrs. Russell.

When The Gilded Age Season 2 starts next week, Bertha Russell will be coveting her own box at the city’s exclusive opera house, the Academy, while her husband will be managing the looming threat of labor strikes. Meanwhile, Peggy, Marion, and even Marion’s sweet Aunt Ada (Cynthia Nixon) will be committing themselves to new starts.
