Daniel Radcliffe is set to executive produce a documentary telling the real story of his stunt double, who starred alongside him starting with the very first Harry Potter film.

Radcliffe is working on a doc titled David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived, which follows Holmes himself, who began working as a gymnast before taking on a role as Radcliffe’s stunt double in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Described by HBO in a press release as “a coming-of-age story,” the doc follows the “inextricable bond” Holmes and Radcliffe formed over the years before detailing the tragedy Holmes later suffered on set.

“On the penultimate film a tragic accident on set leaves David paralyzed with a debilitating spinal injury, turning his world upside down,” the synopsis reads. “As Daniel and his closest stunt colleagues rally to support David and his family in their moment of need, it is David’s extraordinary spirit of resilience that becomes their greatest source of strength and inspiration.”

According to HBO, the documentary is expected to include personal footage, behind-the-scenes clips from Holmes’ stunt work, and interview clips of the Harry Potter crew, family and friends.

Per HBO, “The film also reflects universal themes of living with adversity, growing up, forging identities in an uncertain world, and the bonds that bind us together and lift us up.”

Other executive producers include Hartley, Sue Latimer, Sarah Spahovic, and HBO’s Nancy Abraham, Lisa Heller and Tina Nguyen, plus SKY’s Poppy Dixon.

David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived premieres Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO. It will also be available to stream on Max.
