Yesterday, we all lost a friend in Matthew Perry, who was reported dead of apparent drowning at age 54. Perry was best known for his work as the sarcastic yet charming and lovable Chandler Bing on the hit NBC sitcom Friends, which ran from 1994 to 2004.

In 2021, Max released a special called Friends: The Reunion, which brought the show’s original stars back together for a heartfelt and sweet opportunity to reminisce about their experiences on the sitcom that remains a beloved classic even today. While Perry’s main Friends co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer have not yet spoken out publicly regarding the actor’s death, other former castmates, coworkers, and public figures have taken to social media to pay tribute.

Maggie Wheeler, who played Chandler’s on again, off again girlfriend with a distinctive laugh on Friends, mourned Perry on Instagram, writing “The joy you brought to so many in your too short lifetime will live on. I feel so very blessed by every creative moment we shared.”

Morgan Fairchild was another Friends castmate who took to social media to remember Perry. She said of her on-screen son, “I’m heartbroken about the untimely death of my ‘son’, Matthew Perry. The loss of such a brilliant young actor is a shock.”

Paget Brewster had a brief recurring stint as Chandler’s love interest, Kathy, on Friends, and remembers him fondly, sharing on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter), “He was lovely to me on Friends and every time I saw him in the decades after. Please read his book. It was his legacy to help.”

Mira Sorvino, who acted alongside Perry in 1994 mystery drama film Parallel Lives, posted on X today to post Perry’s legacy in his own words, writing “There will never be another like him- he lit up so many hearts in so many ways,” whilst sharing Perry’s wish to be remembered for more than just his work on Friends.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau remembers fellow Canadian Perry as more than just an actor. Trudeau posted on X of his elementary school classmate, “I’ll never forget the schoolyard games we used to play, and I know people around the world are never going to forget the joy he brought them.”

Here are some additional tributes to the late great Matthew Perry:
