Black Cake is a suspenseful drama about a Jamaican fugitive being accused of murdering her husband after being forced into an arranged marriage.

Based on the popular novel by Charmaine Wilkerson and named after the decadent Caribbean dessert, the Hulu show unfolds over the course of eight episodes.

The first three episodes premiered on November 1, 2023, with the remainder of the episodes airing on Wednesdays, meaning that Episode 4 will be hitting the streamer on November 8, 2023.

Created by Marissa Jo Cerar, the first episode introduces mother-of-two Eleanor Bennett, played by Chipo Chung in adulthood and Mia Isaac in teenhood, who gets diagnosed with cancer and dies soon after.

She leaves her estranged children, Bryon (Ashley Thomas) and Benny (Adrienne Warren), a flash drive and instructs them to listen to it together. The device features Eleanor recounting her life as a teenager named Covey in the late 1960s living in the Caribbean with her family.

The following two episodes show Bryon and Benny struggling to process the new information together, and Covey starting a new life after fleeing Jamaica.
