Mark Consuelos has some choice words — and some workout recommendations — for the men of Gen Z.

On this morning’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, Kelly Ripa introduced the “chair challenge” that is reportedly “taking over TikTok.” The trend involves taking three steps back from a wall, putting your head down at a 90 degree angle with it resting on the wall, lifting a chair to your chest, and standing up.

Ripa suggested she and her husband try it out for one particular reason.

“They’re saying men cannot do it,” she explained. “But of course [EP Michael] Gelman was like, ‘I tried it and I could do it!'”

The two then proceeded to abandon their hosting desk for another side of the soundstage, where Ripa tried out the trend first and nailed it.

“I don’t know, I am a woman, so I just did it!” she quipped.

Consuelos then took a successful stab at the challenge, leading Ripa to question why everyone was saying men weren’t up for the challenge. However, Consuelos had a rather rough rationale.

“I’ll tell you why!” he exclaimed. “Because this TikTok generation is soft! Especially the guys! You’re soft! If you can’t do that, do some sit-ups!”

A still-stunned Ripa then asked why the Live staff was “so good at this,” which prompted Consuelos to suggest that they pull people from the audience in order to increase their pool of participants.

They invited Frank from Palm Springs onto the stage, who tried the chair challenge and passed with flying colors. However, he ultimately revealed himself to be a “triathlete,” which in the two co-host’s eyes discounted his attempt.

“Go sit down, Frank, that doesn’t count!” Ripa said. “I need one more man who is not a triathlete!”

Another audience member, Don from New Jersey, was up for the challenge. While it took him a little longer to master the steps, he ended up correctly completing the challenge as well, which only perpetuated Ripa’s confusion.

“Ok, I don’t understand!” she exclaimed. “What are we doing wrong?”

Gelman then chimed in from offstage, joking that “it was on the internet, so it must be true.”

Ripa then deemed the challenge “so dumb,” adding, “I was so excited! I was like, ‘This is so exciting because we’re gonna show the men what they can’t do.’ Apparently, nobody else can do it except for us here in this studio.”

Better luck next time, Kelly!
