‘Yellowstone’ FINALLY Announces Season 5 Return Date, Reveals Two More Spinoffs Forthcoming

It’s going to be a lonnnng winter, partner.

The last new episode of Yellowstone aired all the way back on January 1, 2023. Taylor Sheridan’s beloved Western drama was originally supposed to return in the summer of 2023, but the writers’ and SAG-AFTRA strikes (not to mention the abrupt exit of star Kevin Costner) delayed production on the second half of the fifth and now final season.

After nearly a year of speculation, Paramount Network announced that Yellowstone will return for its epic final installment in November 2024. The network also revealed that two new Yellowstone spinoffs — currently titled 1944 and 2024 — are forthcoming.

The good news? We’re getting new episodes of Yellowstone! The bad news… those episodes will begin airing IN A YEAR.

“Within five years, we grew Yellowstone from a hit U.S. cable show with five million viewers into a global hit franchise with over 100 million fans around the world and multiple extensions — and, we’re just getting started,” President/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios Chris McCarthy said in a statement. “On the heels of 1883 and 1923’s success, our new planned spinoffs, 1944 and 2024, will take audiences on a thrilling, new and unexpected journey with the complex and compelling storytelling that has become a hallmark of the franchise and has helped turn it into a worldwide cultural phenomenon — thanks to the creative mastermind of Taylor Sheridan.”

No plot details for 1944 or 2024 were announced, but Variety reports that 2024 is expected to begin airing following the conclusion of Yellowstone, with the show featuring “new cast members and locations with some crossover characters as well.” This is the series that would most likely include Matthew McConaughey, who’s been rumored to star in a Yellowstone spinoff since April 2023.

The second half of Season 5 was originally supposed to consist of six episodes, but during a June 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sheridan said that he might write more than the previously reported six episodes. “If I think it takes 10 episodes to wrap it up, they’ll give me 10,” he said. “It’ll be as long as it needs to be.”

If you’d like to start a Yellowstone rewatch — since, you know, we have an entire YEAR before the next new episode airs — all five seasons of the series are streaming on Peacock, with Season 2 episodes currently airing Sunday nights on CBS. Yellowstone prequels 1883 and 1923 are available on Paramount+.

Yellowstone is scheduled to return in November 2024 on Paramount Network.
