A new Britney Spears documentary has resurfaced Jamie Lynn Spears’s controversial 2022 interview, in which she blames her sister for her 13-year conservatorship.

In the interview, the younger sibling claims that she made multiple attempts to help her sister during the tumultuous time in her life.

“Everyone has a voice and it should be heard, so if she wanted to talk to other people then I set that up,” she said. “I would put her in contact with several people who could have helped the situation.”

The Zoey 101 actor then accused her sister of not putting forth enough effort to rid herself of her conservatorship, saying, “How many times can I take the steps without… you know, she has to walk through the door.”

The documentary – titled It’s Britney – discredits the statements made in the old interview by stating that Britney Spears “believes Jamie Lynn did not try to help her in her time of need.”

Now streaming on Hulu, the work recontextualizes the “Toxic” singer’s early years in the spotlight with the revelations from her new memoir The Woman in Me, which came out on October 24, 2023.

Over 37 minutes, the documentary follows Spears through her split with Justin Timberlake, her marriage to Kevin Federline, and her long-lasting conservatorship, during which she performed in two tours.

It’s Britney is part of the Impact x Nightline series, which has also released episodes about Paris Hilton, Jen Shah, and Kanye West.

The documentary is narrated by ABC News reporter Juju Chang, who also conducted the prior interview with Jamie Lynn Spears.

At the time, the Sweet Magnolias actor claimed, “I just believed that if my sister wanted to be out of the conservatorship, then that conversation should be had and she should be able to facilitate that, and I tried many times to do that for her.” She also stated that she was “happy” when her sister’s conservatorship was lifted.

The documentary goes on to claim that Britney Spears felt betrayed by her family, writing in her memoir, “As I was fighting the conservatorship and receiving a lot of press attention, she [Jamie Lynn Spears] was writing a book capitalizing on it. She rushed out salacious stories about me, many of them hurtful and outrageous. I was really let down.”

Jamie Lynn Spears released her memoir Things I Should Have Said: Family, Fame, and Figuring it Out in 2021, but received heavy criticism for mentioning her sister’s conservatorship and difficult life moments while promoting the book.

Near its release, Britney Spears wrote on Twitter in a now-deleted tweet, “She was never around me much 15 years ago at that time… So why are they even talking about that unless she wants to sell a book at my expense?”

The pop star continued to write in her own memoir, “Shouldn’t sisters be able to confess their fear or vulnerability to each other without that later being used as evidence of instability?”

Though, in another excerpt, Britney Spears expressed her love for her sister. “She will always be my sister and I love her and her beautiful family. I wish the absolute best for them,” she wrote.

It’s Britney is currently streaming on Hulu.
