Kelly Ripa admits that her husband and co-host Mark Consuelos is a “brilliant mimic,” but hasn’t yet mastered one particular impersonation.

On this morning’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, Ripa claimed that he “can imitate everyone and anyone instantly” … except for her.

Consuelos conceded that he does “an exaggerated version” of his wife, which he has even demonstrated on the show once before. However, Ripa explained that “he’s been trying to imitate [her] backstage.”

“And I keep looking at him saying, ‘Who’s that supposed to be?'” she exclaimed.

Consuelos attempted to justify his impersonations.

“Cause you do a thing back there and I’m just trying to do what you do,” he said.

When Ripa asked what it is that she does that warrants such an impersonation, Consuelos noted that she “pace[s] back and forth.”

Ripa interjected, “It’s not pacing! It’s walking over and having a conversation with somebody.”

Consuelos said his impersonations come from a place of “love,” but Ripa rejected his excuse as she proceeded to stand up and impersonate his own impersonation of her.

“Cause apparently to Mark, that’s how I communicate,” she added.

Consuelos recalled that he “got good at impersonations” as a kid in school because he “didn’t want to get picked on,” explaining, “And so I figured if I took the first offense—” but Ripa cut in, “So you were the bully?”

Consuelos quickly denied that, noting that “the best defense is an offense.” He added, “And so I would watch people, and just in case they got out of line, I would do an impersonation of them and they killed.”

Ripa joked, “Well, it hasn’t stopped me from picking on you!”

However, Consuelos clarified that he is actually “parroting” his wife. The co-host claimed that “copying” the way someone speaks is a sign that they are interested in the other person, and something to look out for during “cuffing season.”

Ripa chimed in, “But I’m already cuffed! You locked me down decades ago!”
